this guy just retired and coached HS in west Texas and also had career in D3 college in Kansas and Nebraska. he had some interesting insight into how the Big 12 teams migrated from wishbone option running games to spread. He talked about Texas Tech and Mike Leach as well as Baylor leading the migration to spread. he also said that all the teams tended to lose defensive play as the moved to a basketball high tempo scoring style.
his view of DEF is 3 and out period. his motto = "if you don't want to wear down then don't let the other guy move the chains all day". he said, just because you score fast doesn't mean you need to let the other guy drive the field and move the chains relentlessly. just because you score fast, it shouldn't follow your DEF has to let the other guy keep the ball all day by moving the chains. thought this was an interesting view by guy about 80 yrs old.
