Jeeesh, psuro, you've got to do something with that signature picture.....it stops me in my tracks every time I get to one of your posts.......
My dad took my mom to see this movie in the theater. Right before she was going to the beach.
One of the very, very few movies I can say was better than the book.

Having read a book on the filming....technically not an ad lib.
During filming, the crew had a fairly small support barge. It became a running joke amongst the cast and crew whenever something happened...not enough room for all the equipment, swells rocking the camera... the line was "we're gonna need a bigger boat." Credit Roy Scheider with putting it in at the absolute perfect time, but it was not a true ad lib.
The story of how the film changed during shooting because of difficulties with the mechanical shark is pretty interesting stuff. So many scenes that involve the shark that purposely don't show the shark.
