add in there Tom Glavine who lost 15 games his first year or even Schmidt who was terrible his first year or two.

I loved Juan Samuel...remember watching him hit an inside the park hr at the vet..dude was so freaking fast.

Schmidt was only "bad" his first season, with that legendary .196 BA. At that, he still had 18 HRs. In 1974, his break out year, he had 36 HRs, 116 RBIs and a .282 BA. It's still sad that his best season was the strike year of 1981--who knows what numbers he would have put up had there been 162 games? He hit .316 that season
