A few familiar names and some news ones, and one additional bit of news - CJF isn't conducting interviews at least until tomorrow. Time to bust out the plane tracker...

The focus will now turn to Donovan’s replacement, who seems very, very unlikely to come from the current staff.

Franklin has been an OC under excellent head coaches, Bill Snyder at Kansas State and Ralph Friedgen at Maryland. O’Brien was his own OC during his two seasons before returning to the NFL.

But Franklin sees himself as more CEO than play-caller, and has said he doesn’t consider being a head coach/coordinator practically possible.

The only other staff member with OC experience is offensive line coach Herb Hand. Tulsa led the country in total offense twice in Hand’s tenure.

But an inside hire won’t satisfy, and could even alienate, Penn State fans. Especially in Hand’s case, since he oversees the o-line mess.

Jim Haslett, the former NFL head coach and longtime assistant, is spending the year with Penn State as a kind of coaching consultant. His background is mostly defense and mostly in pro football.

Outside the program?

This is probably a reach, but Pep Hamilton, formerly at Stanford, was fired last month as the Indianapolis Colts’ OC.

Friedgen is serving in a vague consulting role at Rutgers, and has a history with Franklin. He’s nearly 68 years old, though.

A medium-hot coordinator with Pennsylvania ties is Frank Cignetti, Jr., son of the longtime Indiana University of Pa. head coach, who’s now at California.

Tyson Helton is the 38 year-old OC at Western Kentucky, where the Hilltoppers broke 49 school or conference offensive records in his first year, 2014. WKU ranks 10th in the country in total offense this year.

What about the Lehigh offensive coordinator? He coaches Bragalone. Maybe he could bring Bragalone to Happy Valley. That would be a dream! *love*
