Happy Spring Ball!! As the weather turns, it’s time for the Nittany Lions return to the gridiron for spring ball! Thank you once again for your continued commitment to Penn State Athletics by converting your 2020 football season ticket (ticket and seat contribution) and parking payment to a charitable gift. Your contribution has presented our student-athletes with scholarship opportunities and the resources needed to provide conditions for success. We could not prepare our student-athletes for a lifetime of impact without you playing this important role.

The excitement around campus is building as the football team has kicked off spring practice. We have three new faces on the coaching staff heading into the spring: offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich, tight ends coach Ty Howle and co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Anthony Poindexter. The team had great winter workouts and is motivated to get back to work and begin preparation for the 2021 season after a strong finish to the 2020 season with four-straight wins.

As you know, spring practice typically culminates with a final practice as part of Blue-White Weekend. As much as we would love to have our first family reunion in more than a year, we are focused on the fall and continuing to keep our community safe, so we can come together on Sept. 11 when we take on Ball State in Beaver Stadium. With that in mind, we have decided to limit our final spring practice to University Park freshmen students, and the families and guests of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. We will not have general public in attendance. You will all still play a huge role in our virtual spring practice celebration! We will share details in the coming weeks of how the greatest student section and fan base in the country will be a part of the spring practice event, albeit virtually.

Since they have not been able to experience Nittanyville nor take their spot in the best student section in the country, we are thrilled to have our freshman class experience Beaver Stadium for the first time since becoming Penn State students. We will create many of our favorite traditions at our final practice, including the team entering the field, the Blue Band playing, cheer and dance squads performing, and the team singing our beloved Alma Mater. We are hopeful to provide the freshmen an opportunity they missed out on this fall, so they will be prepared to come back to join the best student section in the country on Sept. 11.

We are sure many of you are wondering about our ability to host fans in Beaver Stadium in the fall and how that might affect season ticket renewals. We are optimistic and planning for a full stadium experience this fall, yet we understand there may be prevailing health and safety guidelines that could affect crowd sizes. With the rollout of vaccines projected to increase significantly by the summer, we are planning for a multitude of scenarios to welcome fans to Beaver Stadium with our goal being a full capacity plan. As always, our decision to host fans in our venues will be made with the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and community as the top priority.

To give you a glimpse into our planning process, we have met with our Nittany Lion Fan Council and Nittany Lion Club Development Council for their feedback and have worked with industry leaders including sports architectural firm Populous, led by football letterman Scott Radecic, and Ticketmaster on a variety of fan seating plans to create maximum flexibility for our fans to attend games based on capacity guidance. In the event we would not be able to have 100% capacity in 2021, we are working to create scenarios for our season ticket holders to attend as many games as possible.

We will continue to touch base with you, our loyal season ticket holders and Nittany Lion Club members, throughout the next several weeks to keep you posted on our timeline and any decisions made regarding our ability to bring our family back together in Beaver Stadium in 2021. You can expect to hear from us next following spring practice in April.

Is Populous on retainer?

That's weird. I thought Populous was in the business of sports architecture. Apparently they're also "industry leaders" in creating seating plans. Name dropping a former player is a bonus.

It is a shame that TM could not do it without the assistance of Populous like they have almost everywhere else in the country.

Dripping sarcasm.

I don't doubt that they can make a contribution, but are they really necessary? But what am I thinking? It's a university. When dealing with a problem, form a committee and hire consultants.

They needed to consult (ie pay) the architectural firm Populous to figure out seating arrangements for the Fall if we are still at reduced capacity?

Got-thisness.

Our next real celebration will be when the BOT comes to their senses and fires her.

Don’t hold your breath man, they have hooked her up by making her a VP, etc. which gets her a sweeter retirement deal. They are not canning her.

Wasn't Populous already hired to come up with a seating plan for last fall?

I can't believe she's not a fundraising powerhouse.

out of an abundance of caution, in these uncertain times (and we have no idea what we are doing and what the future holds, plus history shows we pay out on any filed lawsuit regardless of credibility), you are screwed.

Sandy is reminding us that, as family, we’re all in this together.

If an athletic director is fired.....would that create the same kind of excitement that is generated here when a coach is canned?

I’m all for “show your vaccine card” to purchase tickets this year. If you’re too afraid of a shot, you can stay home and let the rest of us move on back to normalcy.

Not sure I follow that logic. If you have gotten the vaccine and feel "safe", what difference does it make who you sit near? And if someone else still feels "safe" by not getting a vaccine and going to a football game, why is that also not OK? Does that make them "afraid" of a shot? But "Unafraid" of Covid?

more like punishment for being afraid of getting a vaccine. You want everything opened up? Get the shot. You want to complain about “muh freedoms?” Stay home.

Fortunately you and your line of thinking haven't removed the freedoms of the U.S. Constitution,.... yet.

I'm not getting it. And I haven't stayed home and will not be going forward. So when you see me and are afraid, you can run the other way.

Don't want or need your respect. Take your political bullshit to the test board where it belongs.
He's not the idiot who started it with his must show vax card comment. WHile my family has the vax no way should I be required to show a vax card.
