Belichick just won the coin toss and chose to receive the kickoff.

I would assume statistics show that by taking the ball first you can end up with 0.1 more possessions per game over your opponent, maybe less, than by deferring. Definitely get a fraction of an extra possession per game in NCAA hoops by winning tipoff because of alternating possessions. A little different with football because out of halftime is predetermined.

Pats giving a clinic right now. Romo just clearly and succinctly explained why the running game is still so important in the pass happy NFL.

Yep. Game is over with 7:00 to go in the second quarter
This is why William Stephen Belichick is without a doubt the undisputed best NFL coach of all time. The man must live in the film room, a relentless worker. Takes average athletes and develops them into All Stars. Both Brady and Belichick will be first ballot HOF.

What a horrible coach.

Only newsworthy because 90% of the time since 2008 (might be higher but reports are sketchy), Belichick defers. He's a big believer in having the ball to start the second half and there have been a number of times where they've scored to end the half and then get it right back and score again on the first possession. But he's said that it's a week-to-week decision and they base it on a number of factors, including weather. They must have seen something this week with the below-freezing temps to make him take the ball this time. Ended up working out well.
