Yeah, it’s a show-off move, basically. If your goal is to get stronger there are many other exercises you can do which aren’t at all risky.
Exactly. Its impressive until you miss the box, fall and break your wrist. I believe in the 80's, a favorite in the discus to make the Olympic team had just that happen, no team for him (would have to dig to find it).

Just jump over a piece of PVC set at different heights, same exercise, lot less risk.

Was doing box jumps in college with a kid that could land on two 30 inch boxes stacked on top of one another. I'm pretty good in this area even in my 40s but 60 inches was impressive.
