The official did a nice job today. No idea where this comment comes from.Originally posted by Bushwood CC:
This official is awful and clearly biased. Evans nowhere even close to out-of-bounds....no stalling on Evans despite not making a shot in entire 1st period or most of 2nd after Brown immediately escaped. No Stalling calls JD despite beyond clear stalling by JD in 3rd,.... No stalling on Gillman in 3rd despite intentionally going OB to avoid TD, etc... Just awful officiating including his BS commentary to clearly BS one-sided officiating
Not that it mattered, but Iowa had the criteria edge:Originally posted by Bushwood CC:
Who has the advantage on criteria? Anybody know?
Evans is plenty offensive.Originally posted by NittanyChris:
Does Evans have ANY offense?
Horse$hit non-call in every one of the situations I referenced - Cael was incensed at the calls - non-calls at the end of the 125 lb match. Calling an out-of-bounds re-start at the edge of the mat in the Brown-Evans match when Brown had 55 seconds of RT advantage and riding Evans strong AND the wrestlers were still in-bounds particularly egregious (and even the one-sided homer BTN announcers called it that way - said the call was ridiculous and the crowd booing was called for). Complete horse$hit call designed to give Evans a chance to escape at the restart to tie the match up and negate Brown from getting RT advantage. BEYOND OBVIOUS HOMER CALL and everybody, including the homer announcers, recognized it for precisely what it was.Originally posted by dicemen99:

Would've been a big win. Would've been a win just with Zain. But so what? Team had enough chances to win today ...Originally posted by NittanyChris:
Just imagine if we had Zain and Nico.
Actually, probably would have been a win if they would have let Dylan Alton go at 157....forget about Zain or Nico.Originally posted by El-Jefe:

- Opening takedowns: PSU 3, Iowa 4 (none at 165, 174, 285; Frey gave up a 1st-period reversal).
- Winning after 1st: PSU 1 (197), Iowa 4 (tied at 157, 165, 174, 184, 285).
PSU lost the first period today. Fix that, and PSU wins the dual.
Add to that: a lot of guys got stuck on bottom too long.
Iowa is deservedly the #1 team in the country, and yet PSU had a real opportunity to win.
Him and Brown had the same number of takedownsOriginally posted by NittanyChris:

You're seeing things in the heat of the moment through extremely tinted glasses. I did the same thing over on our board. Some interesting calls both ways, but nothing terribly bad.Originally posted by Bushwood CC:

Brown absolutely deserved to win the match. He controlled the pace throughout and Evans couldn't get out. I was just pointing out that it is hard to score against good competition.Originally posted by NittanyChris:
Come on, 1stplacehawk...Stache was on the defensive the entire match. Anyone could see that. He wins the Jesse Delgado award for today. Except Delgado usually wins.
It was a hard fought match and your team is still the fave this season, IMO. Next year, however, we will be back after our one year hiatus.
The refs are clearly against us again. Time to go back to the EWLOriginally posted by Bushwood CC:

If there is no action on the edge of the mat, the official has the prerogative to restart the match in the center. The official did this consistently today and it was applied correctly in the match you referenced.Originally posted by Bushwood CC:

Not seeing anything through tinted glasses my friend - if you think Brown and Evans were even remotely close to being out-of-bounds (or that it's timing at 55 seconds of RT advantage for Brown was "coincidental"), you are the party "SEEING THINGS WITH TINTED GLASSES" Mr. Pedantic. The call was CLEARLY a horse$hit call and the intention of the BS call was equally clear - give Evans one last shot in the match at a quick escape on the restart while it was still a 0-1 match and Brown didn't have RT advantage. Again, if you think Brown & Evans were even remotely out-of-bounds, it is you who is "seeing things" through "tinted glasses".Originally posted by 1stplacehawk:

BS, he called out-of-bounds in the Brown-Evans match - he did not call stalemate. BTW, he did not call earlier or later matches similar where Iowa wrestlers were riding PSU wrestlers at the edge of the mat (Cutch being a classic example).Originally posted by dicemen99:

The 125 match COULD have had another stall there at the end, but after the restart it would have had to be egregious. Could have gone either way there and have seen it done both ways.
The official was fine and in control of the match today. Very consistent with his calls. You can argue that he should have called stalling more quickly in some matches, but he was very consistent in his application of the rules.
