Tackling an issue for all the top 25 teams I was able to watch.

Undisciplined play (lots of penalties) is evident across college football.

There does not seem to be an "elite" team @ this point in season.

BIG West is bad, except for Iowa.

PAC XII continues to look like the deepest league with a great group of QBs.

SEC is as weak as I an recall in the last five seasons.

OLD MAN RANT: I am personally tired of the "showboating" throughout games, posing, dance routines, chains, chairs, running the sidelines to gloat in front of fans, etc, etc, etc. Nonsensical actions that make me cringe.

You are correct that football is very different. I'm not so cynical that I will stop watching. There are plenty of players, teams, and moments to enjoy.

I personally still love the sport despite all the nil and transfer portal nonsense (and PSU participates heavily in that nonsense!) It is more enjoyable for me than the nfl.

Nothing is ever what it was...we always remember the past as being better than it was. For example, Paterno would have loved the playoff. He would have loved how instant replay is handled. Nostalgia just blinds us from realizing things weren't better.

One other thing that you did not list, and you have to admit that, for the casual fan, it is the BIGGEST story so far across college football at this early juncture.

Yep, next 2 are tests tough for any team, and they could lose both.

Especially when done by players on teams that are losing !!!
