Why "Social Media" is great....

Can someone summarize his thoughts on Kerk. Heard his comments were “interesting” from the twitterati, but no one got into specifics

Just listened now.
Oh, his comments on Kerk were “interesting” alright.

Tan Tom went on a mini rant on how elite recruits these days attitudes are more “What can you (the school) do for me”.... and “Its all about me”...

And he made this comparison that the recruit needs a level of trust in the program to develop the recruit.

“There’s a difference in of having a great plan but low trust, and having a good plan and solid trust.”

“The recruit needs to trust us”.

Basically, Ryan whined in an off-hand way & Buckeye tears taste salty.

He commented that Kyle leaving was a part of Kerk's decommit, but there were other reasons as well.

He didn't specifically say Kerk, but he talked about trust needing to be there and not everything needs to be perfect as long as you trust in what you are doing. Also went into the culture of some athletes being about what people can do for them, being coddled, etc.

Mentioned that a few things he looks for when he is recruiting is what the athlete is willing to do for the team, how they would fit in, whether they are a "jerk". He also said that at times, they have to fight "allowing talent to blind you".

Also of note, he talked of J'Den Cox and that they have thought of possibly going after him to help fill the hole that Kyle left in their RTC.

As enjoyable as a Tan Tom whinefest can be -- live from Aruba it's Tom Ryan! -- the comments about trusting the coaches are similar to what happened with Jake Kemerer.

Ryan has had few issues with guys buying in, for example they actually wear Positive Infinity shirts in public.

That said, the rest ... of course elite athletes are in it for themselves. They are also the most motivated.

Channeling that into a team environment is Ryan's job. Some will be easier than others. Those who are truly impossible need to go, and are cause for self-reflection.
