What are we offering BOB at PSU?

BOB had a decent run in Houston as a coach. 52-48 with 4 division titles.....not too shabby. However, his real legacy of destruction is what he did as a GM. That franchise is set WAY back for a long time because of the deals he made. In fact, he left a worse situation for the next coach than he walked in to at PSU. No Ryan Day of the world would touch that job with a ten foot pole.

Some witty remarks in this thread - but those who seriously dislike BOB or fail to appreciate what he did here were just not paying attention. To navigate through the worst of the sanction years with a winning record, avoidance of large-scale player defections, and a few huge wins was an amazing accomplishment.

Agree. From strictly a HC perspective, a 52-48 record in the NFL is "above average". 90% of the league finishes between 7-9 & 9-7 each year, so a 52-48 record is pretty "average" per NFL. And 4 division titles is pretty good. But his lasting image will be the total bone-headed, shake-your-head type decisions he made as a GM.

It will be very interesting to see where he lands. He does have a 'caustic' personality. Seems like one of those guys that you either "like him" or your "hate him". I could see 50% of the Owners & GMs around the NFL wanting no part of him.

AD because he “loved” Festus! 😂

Seriously doubt Coach O'Brien would ever return to the college scene unless really desperate. IMO, loves coaching, but all the demands of a college coach, recruiting, appearances, boosters etc. Isn't his bag. I attended many luncheons, socials and such, and he aiways seemed like he wished he was somewhere else. Not a real people person, but not everybody is.
