This points out that this loss is more than just on the staff and the O. It was a team loss. A lot of people tend to focus their anger and disappointment on one aspect of the team game. 227 yards rushing? PSU had 125. Northwestern won the LOS. Another big stat - Northwestern fumbled 4 times and didn't lose 1. By the way, PSU won the net punting avg. at 37.3 to 35.6. That's a bonus.

Public Service Retort... sometimes that happens when your O is 3 and out for an entire half.
Over the past 20 games this D has been forced to play 30+games.

that's kind of misleading since Jackson had 2 big runs of 48 yds and 30 yds, and Warren Long had a 35 yard run. 3 big plays accounted for nearly half of their total rushing yards.

for all the complaints about coaching, the D only gave up a FG in the 2nd half when they were depleted by injuries and just gassed, and that was mostly because of a great pass/catch by NW on 3rd and 15.

Fair enough. Still. The team lost both sides of the LOS yesterday.

That's fair. Jackson ran 26 times for 186. Take out the 2 runs for 78 and he ran 24 times for 108 - 4.5 yards/carry. Still not the run D performance you would expect from the PSU D. Also, the D only tackled him for 2 yards in losses.

Agree, the d-line did not play well, nor did some of the LB. Unfortunately the D has not been as good as expected against the run and I am not referring to the OSU, Army and MD QB's. We need to do a much better job stopping the run against UM because they will come right at us.

Fitz took advantage of the lack of speed of the PSU linebackers.

the D also had 6 sacks for -32 yards. the biggest FUBARs I noticed were keeping the contain on the runs that broke to the outside, and poor tackling.

The returns were more frightening to me ... resulted in 7 points (more than the margin of victory) and after not playing contain on the bobbled punt..... the unit just kept not staying in their lanes, over pursuing and not playing contain. Jackson is fast and hides behind his OL picking his spots quite well. So, he will get his yards....on any D.

Yep. At the end of the day PSU lost this game on two plays. First was the KO return where I believe the returner was touched by one PSU player, the kicker. Second was the drop by Haley. While the TO debacle was inexcusable there is no way to know what would have happened if we got the ball back with
50-60 seconds.

We all know about the offensive line woes. But start paying attention to the linebacking. It's not very good.

Thanks for the advice, but I have. They haven't been able to replace Wartman in the middle. His loss was big for the team. He was also the best coverage LB.

Take out this run or that run and their stats look pedestrian. One can say the same thing about Barkley - take out a few good runs and he averages 2 yards a carry. It doesn't work that way. All runs count and all contribute to wins.

The point that should be emphasized is that our problems are not all related to sanctions, youth and OL.

Some on here want to say, except for this play or that play, we would have beaten NW. The fact is that given those plays, we should have been able to beat NW anyhow and we didn't.

Wartman has been a big loss.... but does anyone remember how badly Wartman over ran and over committed in his first season? Coaching...time and his hard work and dedication to the craft made him the LB he is. I am not going to knock the LBs we have playing now. Bell plays while limping....and the younger guys are still learning.

Yeah with two or three second string lineman, had like two or three starters hurt.

Northwestern did pretty well when they needed to considering they had their backup qb in for 3 quarters and 2-3 OLinemen injured.

it's almost like they have enough scholarships and experience to have depth at certain positions
