According to CNN this evening, Ukrainian authorities are confirming the city has fallen. Population 300,000 in the south of the country...not far from Crimea. It's not the main prize of Kyiv but a pretty major development from a psychological standpoint if nothing else.
Not far from there, Russian forces appear to be making progress in their attempt to establish a land bridge around the Azov Sea port of Mariupol between Crimea and the Donbass. Switch on Russian state television, and the spectacle of war in Ukraine is rather bloodless. But within the country under invasion, the picture of Russia's military intentions is becoming clearer.
