You are correct about the elections but not later on late 30’s early 40’s. An agreement between the Nazi party and the Catholic contingent got him elected and they also helped a bunch of Nazi escape at the end of the war. Catholics were afraid the Communists would win power.
That number seems about right. My dad was in the infantry and also spent a fair amount of time guarding German POWs. He always said they were decent people and the majority of them got swept up into things and forced to fight. The people in these camps just wanted to go home and never fight again. I have a very nice painting in my den that a German officer painted and gave to my dad. It was of his farm that was at the base of the Alps. It’s a pretty cool momento from the war.

Ummm... I was raised strictly Republican and was a registered Republican for my entire voting life until Trump was elected to office (I sat that election out, did not vote for Trump). I then changed to independent (as did my entirely family, all independently of each other) because I can no longer associate with what that party has become -- MAGA, racist fascists... Certainly not the Republican party that I grew up knowing. We have changed from a party focused on Republican ideals to a bunch of fanboys worshipping one guy, no matter what he says or does. The current "Republican" party has thrown away any form of critical thought and simply believes whatever their leader, nearing the status of a god among followers, decides to claim.
So your party's main goal is to demonize all Democrats that they come across.
