New record

I was in and out of meetings all day trying to sneak quick peaks at the red and green guys on Track. Wouldn't you know every time I glanced away and then glanced back another match had started LOL.

What’s the record for session 2?

I have no clue

Here's what I can tell you...

Iowa’s record in round 2 in 1997 was as follows:

118 Whitmer W MD

126 Mena W MD

134 Ironside W MD

142 Gillis LOSS 2-4

150 McIlravy W TF

158 Joe Williams W TF [no back points so effectively a major back then]

167 Mike Uker LOSS 11-12 (lost to future gold medalist Brandon Slay, by the way)

177 Tony Ersland LOSS 1-3 OT

190 Lee Fullhart W MD

And Wes Hand, 277, won in the consies

So Iowa’s 9 winner’s bracket wrestlers went 6-3 with healthy bonus points.

Penn State should frankly do better than that. By seed alone, the Lions ought to go 7-2 this next round. And RBY and Berge should have close matches.

After two rounds, Iowa that year was in good shape but the race was still close. Where Iowa really separated themselves was in rounds 3 and 4. They went an amazing 24-2 that Friday. Both losses came in the blood round, with Ersland and Hand losing close matches. If both had won, and gone on to finish 8th or higher, Iowa probably would have scored an obscene amount, over 180.

But Penn State has some good sailing in front of it for the time being and more records could fall.
