...I haven't used my lap top for a few weeks...
...when I turned it on to check my gmail I got a loud verbal message - supposedly from Microsoft - ordering me to call a certain number because my computer was infected with a virus that was stealing all my bank account data (good luck) and if I didn't call immediately they were going to disable my computer to protect their system!...
...what say you?...

I'd say they were telling the truth, at least about the virus. I would search that situation and see if there is a known solution. You might try youtube as well.

System restore to an earlier date is your friend, shut off automatic updates. NOT recovery which dumps everything on your computer, unless that is what you want.

Go into Task Manager and shut down your Gmail and internet browsers, then restart your computer. If you still have a problem, download and run an anti-malware program.

definitely a virus. Good advice above. Another piece of advice, before going into weird web sites, go into "Incognito Mode" in your browser. In chrome, you hit the three dots on the upper right side and hit "New Incognito Window". You can browse and the Web site will have trouble placing a virus on your PC.

Lol, well it's definitely not Microsoft sending you that message. Run Anti-Virus and stop looking at so much porn, Jesus is watching.

I'm pretty sure the amount of porn he watches doesn't prevent Jesus from also watching porn.
