Unfortunate bounces last night. Time to rectify the situation in front of a packed house and student section!

No fire. Playing in front of a great crowd too. The team is lacking leadership right now.

Lacking confidence more than leadership. You can tell watching them last few games when a puck that normal would bounce their way isn’t or a shot that normally would go in isn’t. Liam almost slammed his stick against the glass last night and Evan after a good chance didn’t go in looked to the skies and put his stick above his head. Body language is showing frustration and lack of confidence, not a lack of leadership.

They're lacking both right now. They need someone to step up and lead when their confidence is down. They have not had anyone who has assumed the leadership role this season. It's obvious.

Biro not being on ice hurt them. Even with him back tonight not sure that is going to help the lack confidence after giving up two early shitty goals.

He was partly responsible on the first goal. It happens though. It's also true that they can't buy a break on offense. As you've pointed out before, there isn't much separating all of the teams in the conference. A good bounce here and there, like ND's trying goal last night would help PSU right now.

Steven's hit the post dead on in the last 30 seconds of the period. Darn. 2-1 after 2.

Notre Dame converts a 2 line pass right up the middle for a break away with 5 minutes left to go. 3-2. Not looking good

Empty netter with one minute left down 4-2. Game pretty much over under a minute

Random observations. Defensive lapses led to the first three goals. Nevertheless, the 3rd ND goal was a beautifully executed pass to the cherry picker. Jones had just made a series of brilliant saves,at least two without his stick, prior to that rush too. ND took over the 3rd period after PSU tied it up and carried play the rest of the way. PSU came up empty on all of their power play chances. What a crowd tonight, a Pegula record of 6,475. The students were outstanding. Tonight had everything going for it but a W.

Down to 11th in the Pairwise. Ugh. OSU beat Michigan as well, so PSU's second 1-point weekend leaves a tie for 1st in conference (and a three-way tie for the next three teams). If they don't turn things around, no home ice for the conference tournament and no NCAA tournament, barring a miracle. What do you think - need to get 3 of 4 on the road at OSU and Wisconsin (tall order to be sure!)?

Coach Gadowsky's opening statement from the presser:

"This one hurts for a couple of reasons, one because it was such an amazing crowd and it looked so good and they were so into it, and we just were not mentally prepared at the start. We weren't mentally prepared for a great game, we were not mentally prepared to compete. What I mean is, the other team that we faced had other plans and we did not match their mental toughness at the start and we payed for it. It just hurts so much because it was such a great crowd and so great to look at. Man, it hurts to waste that performance by our supporters."

Two out of the last four home games, last night and the first Michigan game, this was the case. Notre Dame and Michigan had plans that they executed well and PSU wasn't ready. Even though all of this is true, PSU is still tied for 1st place.

Tied for first place though is a little deceiving at this moment. We are tied with OSU (who we play in Columbus next weekend, ouch) followed by Michigan State and Minnesota only 1 point behind but with 2 less games played and now we let fricken’ Notre Dame back in the race as they are only 1 point behind as well. Five teams within 1 point of each other and two of our last three series are on the road. Need to get our act together and quickly.

I edited my original post with that last sentence to add something positive. I'm not really feeling positive about the team's chances. Too many crucial defensive lapses. It's happened over and over again. The ND series was it in a nutshell. The ND goal that tied it with 1:49 left in the game on Friday was a bit of bad luck, but ND wanted it more and outworked PSU to get in position to make that play. The winning goal last night was another example of PSU being unaware of an opposing player who got behind the D to take an excellent pass. The first two ND goals were also the result of poor defense. The first one was shorthanded and PSU has given up several of those this year. MSU scored a crucial shorthanded goal that changed the momentum in the recent series in East Lansing. The loose defense is most of all what does not give me confidence moving forward. Peyton is just left all alone too often.

well imagine how much it sucks for those of us that are deeply emotionally invested in this team.
I hear you. Last night was the first game that I let go of my emotions by the end of it. I was resigned.

One other thing we didn't mention - Coach Franklin and the three new assistant coaches were all brought out on the ice and introduced between the 2nd and 3rd periods. All got nice ovations. They each then got a shot at the goal from the red line. The three assistants all missed. Coach Franklin was last and nailed it dead center, literally hit the net at the divider.

Two of those three teams right behind us have two more games left to play then we do which puts them in an excellent position to pass us. The problem with the team that we are tied with (OSU) is that we play them on the road.

Winning two at Wisconsin is certainly possible this year, so the first step is going into Columbus and earning at least a split.
