Lance Dixon (hopefully false rumor)

Lance Dixon committed to West Virginia today.
Eventually he may remind us of Rashir Bolton from our basketball side. While there was no regrettable comments from our football coaching staff- both players were vastly undersized and green when we had them. For our hoops team we traditionally have needed to recruit under the radar guys with upside- and grow them into players by the time they are upperclassmen. Bolton overperformed his expectations early, showed a great knack for scoring, but also made many critical errors late in games that proved costly. Unfortunately we won't get to receive the benefit of his physical maturity- but he looked like a much more complete player last evening on what has to be the worst Iowa State team in decades. His legs and chest may be twice the size they were @ PSU. Dixon came in much more hyped- but also set tackling back YEARS in his appearances @ LB. Totally manhandled often. Maybe WVU gets him into a position that better suits his talents, maybe he emerges physically and draws upon the abuse that running backs and lineman put on him this past year. I was very hopeful that both would develop into strong contributors for State- but they each vanished in their own ways.....wish them well.

Unlikely that PSU fans will ever find out what really motivated Dixon to move on from PSU. Franklin would never throw a player, current or former, under the bus, and there is likely no motivation for Dixon to get into it now that he is focused on a new team and trying to continue to develop into an actual P5 football player.

But playing time likely played some role. From what the backup LB's showed last season it seems that Dixon would not beat out Jacobs, who is a year younger. It will be a lot easier to get onto the field at WVU than it was at PSU, or if he had transferred to a stronger defensive program such as UM or probably even MSU. Coming from the suburbs of Michigan I find it hard to believe Dixon would be motivated to sign up as a hoopie for any reason other than playing time........

Yep, perhaps over-inflated sense of value. Sounds like he thought big time schools would be after him, like Levis. Reality can hit hard. Now, there is film on you. Now, a program has to unteach things. Sorry but going from Duke to PSU is a big step up talent wise. Going from PSU to UK or WV, not so much. (though UK did put a licking on us but no consistency in program. Good coaches move on)

May have planned to transfer to Michigan. Some talk about 20 credits would not be accepted at UM. Source: Internet Tailgate.
