I've got some friends that own pizza franchises who tell me the cost of the pizza materials is almost nothing. The costs are in the people, building and delivery. So this is why they do buy one get one or sale larger for almost the cost of the smaller.

But the real question is why do they put round pizzas in square boxes?

At least with Neopolitan pizzas, the round pizza often goes into a round oven.

It’s cheaper and easier to make square pizza boxes. The real question is why the pizza has to be round. Fill the box.
Doesn't have to be round, but.....

Why Is Pizza Round? - Pete and Elda's Bar / Carmen's Pizzeria

Why is pizza round? If you’ve pondered this timeless question, you’re not the only one. Google auto-fill quickly forms this question when typing in search terms for pizza and yields millions of results. Sure, not all pizzas are round. You can find square and rectangular shaped pies all over the country, but the majority of pizzerias, especially in New Jersey, serve up round pizza. Let’s find out why.

Even Cooking and Easy Cutting

The round shape most pizzas have makes it easier to cook evenly compared to a more angular shape. It also makes it easier to quickly divide using a small amount of swipes with a round pizza cutter. Have you ever watched a seasoned pizza maker cut a pizza? They do it so quickly it can make your head spin.

Stretching the Dough

When a pizza maker stretches out a lump of dough, they toss it in the air and use circular motions with their hands and fists to elongate the shape. In nerdy and scientific terms, the centrifugal force of throwing the dough in the air in a spinning motion causes the circular shape. Using the shape that is formed from stretching the dough takes less effort than reshaping it, meaning faster production.

Round Pizza in a Square Box

So if the pizza is round, why is the box square? It is much cheaper to mass produce square boxes than round ones since a square box can be made from a single sheet of cardboard. Square boxes are also much easier to store since they can remain flat until needed.

Gotta Fold

If you’ve ever visited the Midwest, you might notice something strange about your round pizza. Instead of large triangle slices, most pizza in the Midwest is cut into small squares. Here in the east, we do things the right way by folding our big triangular pieces in half, and a round pie makes this possible.

One thing is for sure, no matter the shape, pizza will always be our favorite food.

I hate when places identify their "sizes" by number of cuts...that's pretty damn useless in figuring how much pizza I'm getting
I had an old boss who took us out to dinner. He ordered a large pizza, but asked to have it cut into four slices because he wasn't too hungry.

It added to the laugh since he weighed well over 300lbs.

He was joking of course...

This is one of my biggest annoyances here in the midwest. Not only do they cut it into squares, they are TINY squares, like 2 inchces square. That's great for a kids' birthday party, but if it's adults eating, I want a nice big slice of pizza. Sometimes, if I remember when I order, I'll ask them to cut it into triangles instead, but I usually forget.

Moms won’t allow takeout in the house.
Actually that's good. Our kids and grandkids have been getting is pizza each Friday since the lockdown. They leave the pizza on the front porch or back deck. I'll bring the pizza on after sitting a out a half hour outside. Same with groceries the kids get for us. We are very fortunate having the kids on the farm. I'll usually wash my hands with 92% alcohol after touching and apply to face and nostrils.

Starting at 5pm, I'll use 45% alcohol to warm my internals. :p

Is this a farm big enough to shoot clay birds?

Speaking of good pizza, we talking Arcaro & Genell's from Old Forge or we talking Alfredo's in Scranton? Both top notch.

Me now? I live in the boro so I'm partial to Pinocchio's, but that's only because I started going there for their beer garden.

No, we call the property the farm because my father in law had everyone of his children and spouses (myself and SIL's and BIL's) build on the property in Lehman that he bought in 1966. It was essentially a do it "our self project".
All pop wanted to see was assholes & elbows swinging in play while building houses. We built the first three houses in two years....after work, weekends and holiday's. The other four houses were built later, at a more leisurely pace.

Shoot clay, no, but large enough to land a helicopter. One of pop's close friends, Joe Wesley, the owner of AmQuip would often drop by, pick up pop and be off. Mostly to Canada to hunt.
