Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone (although St Patrick was really Scottish)*

Taffy was a Welsh man, Taffy was a thief, Taffy came to my house and stole

a piece of beef.....

No one knows for sure. He lived at the time of the Roman Empire extension into Brittania (400s AD) and there are claims by England, Scotland and Wales for his original hometown which isn't well known. In any event, a patron saint doesn't need to be born in the country. The patron saint of the U.S. is Mary and in Canada its St Joseph.

. Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!!! ;)

Re: Actually, he was Welsh

For some reason I want to pronounce that as Marion.

there is some evidence he was Roman

The only two documents that remain of his were written in Latin and he signed both "Patricius"

Re: there is some evidence he was Roman

As an ordained bishop he surely would have been proficient in Latin no matter where is place of birth.

Re: there is some evidence he was Roman

There is also some evidence that his parents were Roman Patricians.. Like all evidence subject to close scrutiny.

Re: there is some evidence he was Roman

Gotcha. I have seen that before. If he was born around 385 in the British Isles somewhere, as they claim, he and just about everyone else there were a least a little Roman anyway. The Roman withdrawal wasn't until about 410.

That's Ok: Scotch is an Irish drink (Irish Whiskey). Irish taught the Scots how to make whisky (Gaelic for water of life).
