just went to a FB gambling seminar this week with two friends - we enjoyed this and learned a lot about how the original booking odds are set - and then how the line moves with the bets. we also learned some interesting facts around placing the bets. it was not as simple as most think. there are a lot of smart people in Vegas.

we learned there are several different models on how they set the initial line and O/U for NFL. most of the models are using a matchup formula, and then they take injuries into account. most of the models wind up with injuries being the biggest factor due to the way it factors into the matchups. then the usual things like home/away, weather etc factor in. we actually ran some simulations of games and the line/odds are changing as the game is played - i.e. results changing the odds.

besides being a couple fun night out with the guys, we concluded against the idea of starting a betting club with the three of us....unless we want to consider losing $$$$ recreation.

Where was this seminar? Was it sponsored by any group?

Now that gambling has been legalized, how long will it take for CFB to have an injury report like the NFL?

While living in the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood, our apartment building burned. Old building with store fronts on the bottom and apartments on second floor.
Day after the fire, we see guys with dark light jackets and those interesting letters on the back in gold; ATF and FBI.
Seems one of the store fronts had a vacuum cleaner sales and repair in the front, but the back portion had many telephones. Also had phones in the basement right below. They were somehow hooked up for sports betting - legally. The operation did not set the lines or take bets, they simply gathered the information and passed it on to those who did set lines.
Landlord told us afterwards he knew it was taking place and had it checked out to ensure it was legal.

If you want to dabble next season, officefootballpool.com offers a "share pool" that runs just like Vegas betting. there is a pool fee and then you stake all the participants play dollars to bet with. great way to get the feel of real betting and not lose your shirt.
Of course you can also charge an entry fee that will go to the player with the most play dollars at the end of the season

The first lesson in any gambling seminar should be to stay away from NFL football (at least when it comes to sides/totals).

Chicago - Oak Park Hilton property. put on by a couple math profs who run a Fantasy FB league and some on-line betting consulting service. one of them knew Phil Steele and complimented his mags and website service.
