People are focusing on the part of committee's task that's convenient for their argument: 4 best teams. They also preferentially select conference champions unless non champion is "clearly better." 1 loss Bama in over 2 Loss OSU last year. 1 loss OSU over 2 loss Penn St. In 16

Who says Georgia isn't clearly better? It's not just about the record.

You mean that OSU team that lost to Clemson 31-0 was "clearly better" than the PSU team that beat them that year?

I interpret what he is saying as.....if you are Georgia with 2 loses, you cling to the "clearly" better. If you are OSU and OU, your mantra is conference champs and "better record." How you look at things, depends on where you are standing at the moment.

This is why I refuse to get caught up in this bullshit. Each and every one of the talking heads out there KNOWS that they’re promoting a corrupt, inane system and yet they’re covering this without any questions whatsoever.

Delany sat back in ‘16 and didn’t support the B1G’s conference champion thus setting a precedent and significantly lessening the importance of the B1G Championship game.

While the SEC commissioner activity lobbies for two from the SEC this year.

What a difference.

In the spirit of appearing impartial, it seems that Jim Delany dusted off his scripted remarks from 2016.

what it boils down to is that some people claim that points scored against each other head to head don't matter.... it's like giving the national championship to Miami after the 87 Fiesta bowl because they were clearly the better team... .just look at the stats

Herbie would be all over that right now. “Penn State doesn’t have an offense to compete with Miami. Doesn’t passs the eye test. Penn State struggled in half of their games.”
Wins and losses are all that should matter. 1 point, 70 points, it shouldn’t matter. Wins and losses.

The problem is the beauty contest aspect - if the committee knows which are the 4 best teams, regardless of record, then why the hell play the games??

OK...... so then OU and OSU have a coin flip? Toss dimes? An epic game of team JENGA?

Sure. It’s better than what we have now. Something concrete like you suggest or an arm wrestling contest would be fine with me.
Ultimately, the five conference champions in the playoff with a first round game between the 4 and 5 seeds is what I would like to see.

No. 2 Clemson vs. No. 3 Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl

I have a hard time feeling sorry for teams that don’t get in, including PSU in ‘16.
Play the type of schedule it takes to earn consideration.
Win those games.
Alabama, Clemson, ND have done those things and are in.
When you don’t take care of your own business, you leave it up to somebody else to make the decision.

Notre Dame shouldn’t be in. Imagine if they were a full member of the ACC - ND either would have played Clemson in the regular season or in the CCG. Its not fair that every other team in the playoffs had to play an additional game against a quality opponent- except for Clemson- while ND didn’t have to risk anything because they’re a quasi-independent.

Clemson had to play an additional game, but it was obvious last night that the PITTiful Panturds were no how/no way a quality opponent. If Clemson would have shown up with better than than “C” game, they could have easily matched and likely would have won by more than the 45 points when we embarrassed sPitt.
