Of course, I missed it. I'm always a "day-late and a dollar-short". Story of my life.

Here is one more song that I think fits the mood of the Summer of 67, although it was recorded 6 years earlier. 1967 was a time of love, and a time of war. 11,153 Americans were killed in Vietnam that year. May they all rest in peace.

written by John Phillips, and sung by Scott McKenzie

The guy on the far right in the Grass Roots' "Let's Live for Today" album cover above is Creed Bratton from "The Office."

it should be noted for all of History, that in 1967 (week of Dec 23) that the Jordan Brothers 'Gimmie some lovin'' was higher on the charts (WLAN) then the Spencer Davis group version!! Spencer Davis group actually covered the Jordan Brothers version. (Although the Winwoods wrote the song, the Jordan Brothers arranged it differently, and that arrangement is the one you hear today).
The Jordan Brothers , fyi was a great Coal Region band for many years.

Whiter Shade of Pale - one of my top 10 songs of all time.

Agreed, Grace was quite slick back in the day:cool:
What an interesting woman. After the stardom was over, she just seemed to say "to hell with it" and just went a total different direction with her life. She was honest to a fault about her career in her interviews, didn't seem to have a filter or even care if the wrong thing slipped out when speaking. One of a kind, and for whatever reason, she doesn't seem to get name checked on the list of influential feminists or women. Grace Slick was a force. She had integrity and brilliance but was brutally blunt and hilarious at the same time.

Who was that legendary writer who also served as the bus driver for the Grateful Dead? I seem to recall a documentary movie on Bob Weir, where he talked about that guy, and now I can't recall the name?

Neal Cassady? He was a bus driver for the "Furthur" bus for the Merry Pranksters.

My second grade teacher used to sing that song to us - of course I had no idea it was a protest song -she must be in her 70's now - damn I feel old.

He was more than that. Cassady was Kerouac's writing inspiration and felt that Cassady had greater talent than himself. Kerouac pretty much idolized Cassady. Read the Paris Review interview with Kerouac. You'll love it. Actually, all the interviews I've read in the Paris Review are excellent. Kerouac riffs in the interview. He had a great, racing intelligence. He also loved booze and pills.

Kerouac would have hated Lee Child:D ( dead horse, I know;)).

the question was about a bus driver. I know Neal Cassady was more than that. and he could have kicked Jack Reacher's little b*tch arse. :D

btw, one of my favorite Dead tunes is "Cassidy" . . .
