Favorite Lines from songs....

She’s phenomenal. Son2 alerted me of the 10 a few days ago.

There’s just so much going on with her - the writing, the music - she’s evolved in a way few probably predicted when Tidal first debuted. I hope she tours again with this album because I saw her 20 years ago at the AJ Palumbo center and had tickets to her last show in DC but couldn’t go because my wife was sick.

Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll

Cant believe many of the same players gave us...

Tell ‘em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
.
.
.
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queens Off with her head
Remember what the Dormouse said
Feed your head
Feed you head

At the end of the day, it's just a way for them to make a living like anyone else is trying to do.

None of the record producers would have run with that stuff in the 1980s.

With apologies To John Prine....Sluggos update to Paradise

"And daddy won't you take me back to Raleigh County
Down by the Coal river where paradise lay?"
"Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Blankenship’s coal train has hauled it away
29 miners died there that day.

I really do appreciate the fact you're sittin' here
Your voice sounds so wonderful
But yer face don't look too clear
So bar maid bring a pitcher, another round o' brew
Honey, why don't we get drunk and screw.

I didn't go through the whole thread, so, sorry if this was posted. I was just in my early teens when this song was out. We sang this part as loud as we could while we were out carousing the town. Simon and Garfunkel = CECILIA!!!
Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia
Up in my bedroom (making love)
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place!

Eddie Vedder/Society:
When you want more than you have
You think you need
And when you think more than you want
Your thoughts begin to bleed
I think I need to find a bigger place
'Cause when you have more than you think
You need more space

Pearl Jam/Elderly Woman...
I seem to recognize your face
Haunting, familiar, yet I can't seem to place it
Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
Lifetimes are catching up with me

John Denver/Annie’s Song:
You fill up my senses like a night in the forest,
like the mountains in springtime, like a walk in the rain,
like a storm in the desert, like a sleepy blue ocean.
You fill up my senses, come fill me again.

Lord Huron/Lullaby:
You arrive along with the sun
Where have you been darlin'? What have you done?
You were out finding trouble again
There's a fire in your eyes and there's blood on your hands

Johnny Cash/Folsom Prison Blues:
When I was just a baby
My Mama told me, "Son
Always be a good boy
Don't ever play with guns"
But I shot a man in Reno
Just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowin'
I hang my head and cry

R.E.M./Nightswimming:
The photograph on the dashboard taken years ago,
turned around backwards so the windshield shows.
Every street light reveals a picture in reverse
Still it's so much clearer
I forgot my shirt at the water's edge
The moon is low tonight

Pink Floyd/Comfortably Numb:
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb

Not really a lyrics person, more of a music person. Clown and Blind by Korn, Ænima and Hooker with a Penis by Tool, I am legend by White Zombie, Thunder Underground by Ozzy.... all songs that when I’m at the gym I get an extra pump when they come on. That said, if I had to pick lyrics, the first ones that come to mind are:

Walking tall machine gun man
They spit on me in my homeland
Gloria send me pictures of my boy
Gots my pills ‘gainst mosquito death
My buddy’s breathing his dying breath
Oh god please, won’t you help me make it through.

AND

Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

In honor of the late, great Bill Withers. From "Who is He and What is He to You?"

"You're too much for one man, but not enough for two."

"Get your motor runnin'.
Head out on the highway ..."

Tell me who doesn't sing that second line with gusto, every time they hear it ...

"All your crying don't do no good,
Come on up to the house,
Come down off the cross,
We can use the wood,
You gotta come on up to the house."

Tom Waits
Come on up to the House

John Melloncamp/Jack & Diane:
So let it rock, let it roll
Let the bible belt come and save my soul
Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Change is coming 'round real soon
Make us women and men
Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of living is gone"

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Steppenwolf
