Culture rears its ugly head at Pitt

It is pathetic that Penn State fans now get all giddy when they hear about other case of molestation or child porn. They act as if it in some twisted way makes Penn State handling of Sandusky any better. It sick that people turn it into a joke about culture. Those are real kids who were forced into that abuse that you turn into a joke to make yourself feel better about Penn State.

Why do we keep acting like the Pitt board? Can't we be better than they are? Why can't we be grownups even if they're children? This is awful, it's sad, but unfortunately sometimes universities make mistakes and hire bad people. It is not culture. Sandusky wasn't culture. A student counselor who allegedly collects child porn isn't culture.

If you're trying to make a point that it's wrong to generalize about a school or a team or an alumni base based on the actions of one sick/criminal person, why do exactly that?

I dont think anyone is really saying this guy is the result of Pitt's "culture". The tread title was sarcastic mockery in light up the fact that Pitt fans have been for years saying Penn State's "culture" enabled Sandusky to molest kids.

No RutgersNut, it's about pointing out the hypocrisy of them blaming the actions of Sandusky on a football fan base and tarring us with that monster's acts like we had anything to do with it, all the while it happens in their glass house. Stfu already with your nonsense.

Sorry if it offends you. We seem to offend you quite a bit here, which is an interesting observation, if you ask me.

Not half as giddy as other fan bases got (and still are) when Sandusky got arrested. I've heard more sick jokes about Penn State than I can count. I've also heard about our horrible culture over and over, so forgive me if I don't get all weepy eyed when it happens to a fan base that trashes us. It doesn't make the handling of the Sandusky situation any better but it does show it's not a Penn State problem.

1) This kind of fan bulls-- is boring. I don't know why anybody finds it a good use of time to write it or read it.

2) There's reasons why Sandusky was a huge deal, a lot bigger deal than every college administrator caught with child porn on his computer. The biggest reason is that Sandusky himself was a huge deal - he was Paterno's most important assistant coach for many years and he was accorded Mother Theresa-like at PSU and in the college football world.

3) Every time people start these threads trying to equate the Sandusky scandal with every other scandal at every other college, it makes the people on this board look like crying babies who still don't get it.

Now it's time to move on. It wasn't time to move on 3 years ago, but now it is. We probably know what is going to be known about Sandusky and the PSU administrators, and everybody can decide for themselves what to make of it. And public opinion -- among people who don't know the facts -- is not going to change.

If I encounter Pitt or Temple or Rutgers or Maryland fans making "PED State" jokes (and this pretty much does not happen any more), I would just turn my back. End of story. Anybody doing that is not someone I would want to associate with.

Well, then when I see Penn State fans engaging in the same kind of worthless, tasteless banter -- call it parody or whatever -- I feel the same way about them. No need to know these people. There are better people worth spending time with.

Life is short, guys. Spend it the way you want to spend it.

I do agree but my days of turning the other cheek and taking the high road are over.
I can only take being slapped so many times.

I am not a turn the other cheek person, nor do I care about high road. I am just aware of how little time there is left on earth, so I am not interested in wasting time on someone else's stupidity and negativity. And nothing seems dumber to me than actually starting these things up at this point. I get how ridiculous it was to refer to Sandusky's crimes as Penn State "culture" -- but that point has been made 100,000 times. We get it already.

At this point the culture references and all the bitter references to other schools are just reminding everybody -- starting with us -- of this horrible chapter in our school's history that should finally be coming to a close. It's only prolonging our own anguish. It's like keeping cat poop in your kitchen because somehow you are addicted to the smell of it. I don't get it.

Scary. Who knows how long he has been up to this while at the U of Pedsburgh. Possible other administrators could be involved?

I hope there is some time of internal investigation done to ensure there's no further risk.

How about his multiple it's time to "Move On" bull$hit mantra references or his completely ignoring the fact that it was AG Corbutt's completely FRAUDULENT creation including Malicious Prosecution Indictment/SWIGJ that produced this whole thing??? Hypocritical @ssholes like this tool who blithely ignore the disgraceful public corruption and moral-depravity of the scumbags which created and caused all this utterly reprehensible, unrighteous and unjust damage to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, within the PSU Community and Centre County region are really something else with their childish behavior of claiming to be "PSU fans" when it is quite clear that they are trolls and hypocritical scumbags of the very worst kind (based on this guy's past postings a true scUMbag if you catch my drift).

The director of the University of Pittsburgh’s counseling center has been arrested on charges he was in possession of child pornography.

Edward J. Michaels, 67, of Wilkinsburg was charged Tuesday by Allegheny County Police with possessing child porn and criminal use of a communication facility. A university spokesman said Mr. Michaels has been placed on leave.

According to a police affidavit, a Wilkinsburg police sergeant went to Mr. Michaels’ Old Gate Road home on March 27 after receiving a tip from a concerned person who had seen photographs of young girls at the residence.

The sergeant found photos of apparently prepubescent girls in sexually explicit poses at Mr. Michaels’ home, the affidavit said. The sergeant seized two laptop computers, two USB memory sticks and several hundred loose photographs, according to the affidavit.

County police detectives reviewed the evidence and said it included photos of young girls in various stages of undress, a naked girl lying on a bed, and other sexually explicit images.

Mr. Michaels was arraigned Wednesday night and was released on non-monetary bond.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 1 with District Judge Kim Marie Hoots in Wilkinsburg.

Mr. Michaels’ could not be reached Wednesday, and court documents did not list an attorney for him.

His biography on the Pitt website says he joined the university’s division of student affairs as the counseling center director in 2015. He chairs the school’s mental health task force, which promotes student well-being, according to the biography.

“The university is cooperating fully with authorities conducting the investigation,” Pitt spokesman Joe Miksch said in an email. “Michaels, who has been a member of the staff for two years, served in an administrative role, and was not assigned clients.”

Wonder how many emails from Fina they found on his computer?

We are simply following the Quran and preaching reciprocity for one's actions.

How about tool-boy's clearly hypocritical "moral equivalence" claim that being a football coach and abusing children at your own private charity that you founded as well as via State-assistance via State-Administered Adoption and Foster-Parenting Programs (none of which have doodles in the least to do with PSU, not did PSU have any responsibility for Sandusky in regards to these non-PSU private endeavors that have zero to do with his PSU work-related professional responsibilities) is clearly worse than a University of Pedsburgh DIRECTOR OF STUDENT COUNSELING having the CRIMINAL PSYCHOSIS of being a severe pedophile of prepubescent children, which clearly makes him UNQUALIFIED to be the "Director of Student Counseling" for Pete's sake!!! But according to this insanely hypocritical @sshole, who fraudulent poses as a "PSU fan" for the purpose of flaming, it is really a very minor thing, and no big deal, that the University of Pedsburgh is employing a complete sociopath, psychotic, sick monster in the professional position of "Director of Student Counseling"??? You couldn't make up a more hypocritical, bull$hit claim if you tried proving once again what kind of dirtbag POS scUM these "poser troll" fraud PSU fans are, but they are often protected by the monitors on this site which really says something about the corruption that exists and has even infiltrated "rivals".

I'm very concerned about the victims here. Not concerned enough to do anything, of course, since they already set that standard, but I'm concerned enough to state that I am concerned.
Shame so many of us are banned from the pitt board or we could all head over and share our concern,, you know to help and whatnot.

It's a sad day for all of us, we the the ones that should be protecting children have this happen. It doesn't matter if it happened at Pitt, Psu or anywhere else, we should not be celebrating anything

I wonder if Pitt will let him maintain an office on campus total access to all facilities travel to college sanctioned events and even sit in the presidents box for events. That would teach em. Those enablers.

They all should have known. Close them down. Sanction them.
At some point the sanctimonious, hypocritical, morons out in the world will realize these guys are everywhere.

Would people notice if Pedsburgh didn't play football anymore? I guess at bowl season when some lowly team doesn't get their bye victory by getting matched up with pedsburgh.

Sitting through pedsburgh athletic events would be pure torture. Jail is probably better.

This is why these imbeciles are despised:

This is how it is handled in real cities in real organizations. Not 40 years of cover ups.

Those losers still don't get no conspiracy was found in an actual court of law. Just pathetic haters that never cared about what happened. They were just hopeful they could get a few recruits. Unfortunately that didn't work out either.
