Last month I mentioned that I was reading Stalin's Spy (about Richard Sorge) by Robert Whymant and told Tom I would offer a review when I was done. I just finished it and wanted to keep my promise while it was still fresh in my mind. I apologize for it's brevity.
I thought it was well researched and interesting enough, but it was not the kind of book I rushed to return to every day. Of the many books I've read about World War II, I much prefer one like Antony Beevor's Stalingrad. Still, it covered an area I knew little about (spying) and that alone made it worthwhile. I think it's a book I'll appreciate more as the years pass because I'll read something else (about Pearl Harbor, or Operation Barbarossa, for example) and I will remember a vignette from this book that brings it all into sharper focus. I'd give it 4 stars out of 5.
