I bought this 1988 Lund Boat in 2007. In it was some non-descript battery which I assumed would wear out in a short time, and which was far from brand new then. For the last 9.5 years I have run the boat, including one unscheduled trip thru the woods attached to my truck which you may have heard about.
I run the hell out of it every July for a week, and every April for a long weekend fishing with my PSU buddies at Lake Anna in VA. Other than that a few trips to the Potomac 20 miles away each year (more shakedown cruises for the bigger trips) At virtually every other moment of its existence, this battery is plugged into a BatteryTender maintainer in my garage.
Remarkably, the original battery, which must be at least 11 or 12 years old, still fires it up every spring, but I am convinced it is going to spit me out one of these days, and I would like to replace it BEFORE I have to pay some Canadian lakeside chiseler double the cost of a new one to get it up there.
I have a buddy who swears by Optima Blue-top marine starting batteries. I use a trolling motor a little, but not that much. Amazon has the blue-tops for about $175. Its an easy install that even I cannot screw up.
Recommendations?
