"(CNN) -- Bill Cosby entered the general population last month at the Pennsylvania prison where he's serving at least three years and is being "treated just the same as any other inmate," a state corrections spokeswoman said.

Cosby, 81, was moved January 28 and is now in a single cell without a cell mate, which is typical for the facility, said Amy Worden, press secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Cosby's unit houses inmates of varying ages and it is not a geriatric unit. Worden would not say specifically where in the prison he is being held.

Cosby previously was held in a single cell in a unit adjacent to the infirmary. While there, he could not move as freely around the prison as other inmates."

The facility just opened last year in Collegeville, PA and looks and sounds shangri-la for a prison.

Is he bringing gifts?

SCI Phoenix is the replacement for Graterford, which was crumbling. Phoenix is full of murderers, rapists, and other violent scumbags and just like Graterford it also has a death row. “Shangri La” might not be the best way to describe an extended stay on the Commonwealth’s dime.

It still sounds like a nice place as far as prisons go. Individual cells, TV, a common area to sit and play cards, etc.

"In response, Worden said Wyatt misunderstood what general population means, and she confirmed Cosby is in a unit within the prison's general population."

OMG how does the press secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections not know what General Population is? I mean really?
I thought he might end up in Somerset with JS.

He was convicted of drugging and raping women - so yeah he belongs there and it has nothing to do with "me to".

isn't he 81YO with deteriorating eyesight ... I agree he belongs in jail for what he was convicted. Not sure if this is the right place.

You just described 90% of the prisons in Pennsylvania
Pretty much the entire country.

Besides destroying so many lives, his crimes have ruined so many great TV memories - I see him on old Electric Company videos my boys watch and cringe. And forget Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids which was a classic.

Never liked the Cosby show itself.

Sitting next to a guy serving 20 years for stabbing somebody who annoyed him while Oprah reruns are shown on a TV and a couple of rapists play cards a few feet away just doesn’t sound all that nice to me whether the concrete walls are new or not.
I agree. Having to be locked up in a cage, whether a shitty cage, or a nice one, doesn't sound like much fun. No thanks, I'll try my best to stay away from that.

NO and NO you have no Idea
With the exception of some prisons not having individual cell TV hookups, but common dayroom TV's instead, everything the other poster stated is accurate. Murderers are not kept segregated from the general population, they play cards, eat, shower and watch TV alongside of every other inmate regardless of charges depending on their behavior and classification. Most prisons have single cells set aside for special cases and Cosby very well may be in a single cell. As such, I do know what I''m talking about and it appears you are the one with no idea.

No Prison is easy, Don't fool yourself.
I think he was challenging Bob’s notion that those features were particularly cushy and unusual. You can still get shanked in a common area or a “nice” exercise yard.

That said, there are also a lot of places that look like massively violent youth hostels due to overcrowding. We can thank USA Prison Inc. for that state of affairs.

Early in my career, i worked in a large state prison as a medical professional. Actually a pretty good job as the inmates respected most providers. Individual cells were prohibited as there was a much higher risk for suicide when there was no "cellie." Everyone had their own tv with probably about 30 or so channels.

8 years ago while working for the Commonweath, I “toured” several State Correctional Institutions including Greaterford. Inmates had their own TVs. They were small with clear plastic coverings.
