I'm bored and with no PSU wrestling for almost a month, I figured let me go thru Big Boards back to 2017 (the last of those guys still wrestling) and list top 10's and champs for those years. I'm using Flo's Big Boards which list top 100, so if you see a champ not listed, please post it.

Anyone from class of 2016 still wrestling?

I couldn’t find Bernie anywhere. Guess he wasn’t top 100 out of HS?

2017 and 2018 were so good. 2022 looked great on paper. They are yet to be determined.
Great topic though

Might have picked Hamiti from 21, but, the competition seems to have him figured out. Dunno about Van Ness coming off injury, but, my Blue & White eyes see him as the most likely on your list.
22 = Levi. 23 = Shapiro

I was thinking about Shapiro, but he would have Levi in his way and I didn’t want to put that possibility out into the universe..

I guess Figueroa from 2021 has a shot this year..haven’t seen him wrestle in awhile

Ironic that Fix was #1 on the big board, and has been a fixture at #2 or 3 ever since.

He started his career at Michigan, he's at Rutgers now I believe - but only in their RTC and not the college.

Ryan committed to Iowa state but never went . Ended up going to a division 3 school for a year . Then he transferred to Binghamton , wrestled one year and than fell off the map .

Don't hold me to this but I’m pretty sure he is currently at Rutgers getting a degree in business.

8. Deprez

8. Suanders (is he still wrestling?)
Louis DePrez was just added to the Binghamton roster (how is that possible?!?).

Josh Saunders will be wrestling 149 for Cornell in 2023 (injury, eligibility, other issues). Cornell will have four of your list (Vito, Ramirez, Saunders, and Shapiro) as starters in 2023.

I may be wrong but I thought I heard DePerez is now coaching at Binghamton? Maybe thats why he on roster? As a coach..

So Saunders is wrestling this year?

According to Wrestlestat, DePrez is on the roster with a medical redshirt for last year (when he was injured at the Scuffle). If he got a medical for last year, he'd have a year of eligibility. However, on the Binghampton website, he's only on the roster as a coach, not a wrestler. It looks like he's competing in the Senior Nationals, so who knows?

Binghampton's Coaching Staff lists him as an assistant coach. Then there's this from Trackwrestling's OPC roster for Binghamton (ordering indicates it was a recent addition?):

And, yes, Saunders is going to be Cornell's 149 this year. A Cornell forum poster with the user name "saunders" said

Joshua does get NCAA qualifying points, but he is NOT eligible quite yet. NCAA will clear him after the semester. I'm assuming and hoping B4 OHIO ST dual meet in January.

Pretty interesting...

Based on these numbers, I have both PSU and OSU at 9 top 10 recruits over this time period. Looking at only Top 5 recruits, OSU has 7 and PSU has 5. If you went back another year or two or expanded to top 15, the numbers might look a little different, but given what's presented here...there is a good argument that OSU has out-recruited PSU (at least in terms of HS talent).

Important to note: PSU has gotten 8 titles and 3 different titlists out of these guys. OSU has gotten 0 titles.

This can't be true. I've been told time and time again that PSU's coaching has zero to do with their success. It is all because they cheat their way into every single top recruit that has ever wrestled.

Adding those numbers puts PSU and OSU into a tie with 7 top 5's each and gives PSU one more top 10 recruit since 2016 (11 to OSU's 10).

It also increases PSU's number of titles and titlists from top 10 recruits over that time period to 9 and 4, respectively. OSU is still at 0.

I dig this line of inquiry and discussion. I think if we’re going to use this as a basis for analyzing coaching prowess, it would only be fair to only look at years where eligibility has been exhausted. Plenty of names on those later lists that could end with plenty of accolades, anyway.

I think you're missing Mason Manville from PSU's numbers. We had 3 of the top 5 that year (Hall, Suriano, Manville), which would put us over tOSU with 8 top 5's and 12 top 10's.

I didn't count Suriano for PSU. Similarly, I didn't count Kerk for OSU.

Hard to fit tranfers into this kind of analysis.

Ok, gotcha. Personally, I would definitely count Suriano for PSU as a recruit since he actually wrestled a full season here (but obviously not count his national titles since he had left by then). Kerk is a little different since he left before ever even stepping on the mat for tOSU.
