Since there was no mention of Reed's de-commitment, just wanted to get some comments regarding how big this loss was for this class, and your feelings on the prospects of landing Walker.

It's a big loss IMO. You need 3-4 solid OL and DL players for each class. So losing any hurts. Walker is an important piece, not that he wasn't always a big piece for this class.

fyi he and his junior teammate were just named to the all class all state "dream team" by Det News. Reed's hair is awesome btw, not sure if we are recruiting the junior Anthony Bradford, but he has offers from everyone

Do you know the reason why Reed de-committed?
FYI, it was because of his grades. Nothing went wrong with his recruitment, only with his schoolwork.
Yes, getting Walker now is a bit more important. But, we will be ok.

He will end up a Wolverine, Spartan, or Buckeye, maybe?

I would rank the chances for those 3 like this:
1. MSU
2. tOSU
3. UM
Michigan, for all their hatred, IS a pretty good academic University.

More to it than academics. Kid can enroll even if he's a non-qualifier, but he has to pay his own way for at least his first year. If he's what they now call an academic redshirt (what they used to call a partial qualifier, funny how things seem to come full circle), he can receive financial aid, practice, but can't play.

If PSU is pulling the plug this early, odds are that he's a non-qualifier.

Not if he won't qualify.

yes - if he cannot qualify he wont wind up anywhere. if he winds up on any of those 3 teams there is a problem. while we are better than MSU and tOSU academically, we are not in the same category as UMich = that is a much more elite school academically than PSU.

this is like the Adam McLean story at Maryland. the moron coach at Maryland continued to call this a "flip" from PSU and the media obliged. notice he was not on the Maryland team in his FR year. he eventually wound up on their team but it took a while.

But what about Bradford's hair?

Has nothing to do with the relative academic standing of the school or its admissions standards. We are talking about varsity footbnall players here so all that is thrown out the window.

If he's a non-qualifier and a school is willing to take a flyer that he'll eventually make it, then it boils down to his ability to pay for his first year. He's a Michigan resident so the cost would be less at MSU and Michigan than it would at tOSU. Also, greater likelihood that a school can find a program of non-athletic financial aid for an in-state students than out. Rutgers used to do it all the time until virtually every kid that they did it for washed out before they finished Year 1.

Reed could just go to Lackawanna, get himself straight, then come to PSU later. Probably has someone pulling an "Edsall" on him telling him he can get into their school when they know full well he can't. CJF could just keep recruiting him through prep school.

Prep school is probably not an option. There are too many unknown variables to determine how Reed's situation winds up. Would I be surprised if he ended up at a four-year school somewhere? Only somewhat and it would be relatively less surprising if it were a school in Michigan. And I can just hear it now if he does.

FWIW, it's much better than "pretty good". One of the elite public schools in this country.

Penn State is ranked 52 in national universities and University of Michigan is ranked 28. Penn State is typically in the Top 50 (I have seen 35-50, typically). While UM is more highly ranked, I wouldn't say that a top 30 rank carries significantly more prestige than Penn State's rank. Realistically, it's going to be something else on a job application that differentiates two applicants.
