FB Recruiting 2023 Elite 11 Thread — Ethan Grunkemeyer updates

We also are developing quite a reputation of finding QBs before they blow up. We found Justin Fields when he was an unknown even though he decommitted after blowing up. We found Allar when he was an relative unknown 3 star. And now our current 3 star earns and invite to the elite 11 and then wins the day 1 MVP over the 5 stars. You have to admit, we arAe getting good at this.
McSorley also. Other programs wanted him as a safety and he was a capable and good but not elite QB. It's almost as if Franklin knows what he's doing, probably to the chagrin of many a message board warrior.

Wow, a #3 and a #1 eval. He's putting himself in at least high 4 star consideration there at the elite 11.
A footnote in the linked article:

Penn State tight end commit Luke Reynolds, deserves a tip of the cap for his work on Thursday night. the 6-foot-4.5, 220-pounder ran a seemingly endless number of routes for the quarterbacks. Reynolds is a top athlete in the combine setting, but showed that twitch can transfer over to the field. The burst, change of direction and ability to finish catches stood out.

Kudos to Luke as well.

Day two updates via Rivals, Grunk moves to No. 10 overall.
#10 and he's like the only QB that Rivals can't even bring themselves to say something positive about without an attached slight. Nearly every other word of the write up is some negative take that we aren't hearing from anywhere else. Which rivals national scout has the vendetta?

I’d argue this is something nice about him.

Rated as a high three-star prospect, the Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy standout has a strong arm and the ball pops as he especially threw some nice crossers and was great throwing it down the seam.

Elite 11 coaches rank the day two performers.

Twice in this thread, the evaluators have said that Grunk's throws have a "second life," what the heck does that mean?

Elite 11 - 247 final rankings

7. Ethan Grunkemeyer (Penn State commit) –
Grunkemeyer was another under-the-radar name that popped all three days. He’s able to create plenty of power through his torso and is able to rip the ball to the second level with ease. The deep ball might not have been there for Grunkemeyer on Thursday, but it was Friday as he fired right into the teeth of the defense multiple times. He’s a nice find for James Franklin.

Elite 11 - On3 final rankings

3. Ethan Grunkemeyer – 3-star Penn State commit

Ethan Grunkemeyer was perhaps the most pleasant surprise at the Elite 11 Finals. The Penn State pledge flashed arguably the most explosive arm action at the event. From early on in Day 1, the ball jumped out of Grunkemeyer’s hand. He easily drove the ball downfield on a line – as well as anyone. The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy product was the On3 MVP on Day 1 with a very impressive day in drill work. He backed that up with a strong showing during his pro day, flashing loose, coordinated movements to go with his plus arm. Grunkemeyer had an up and down 7-on-7 session on Day 3 but still made a number of high level throws. He showed he could go throw for throw alongside the best quarterback prospects in the cycle.

Playing devil's advocate, it is costly to go back through the process of grading yourself and your competitors while at the same time chasing down and evaluating new young and emerging talent.

Secondly, the initial analysis could have been spot on. But the player grew, matured and improved and was not the same player that was previously evaluated.

Just food for thought.
You little devil, you.
