There seems to be a good deal of confusion on what the Amendment says regarding Insurrection and barring from public office. So for factual information here is the text: It's interesting to note a majority of the Justices claim to be textualists so they should rule only on what is written.

What Does the 14th Amendment Say?

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment reads as follows:

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
If you read the text, you might have a few questions like, Officer, need for a conviction . The SCOTUS will soon have the job of clearing up those questions (hopefully). It's also worth noting each state is responsible for establishing their own rules/laws/procedures that govern elations in their state. The SCOTUS will also probably be issuing a ruling on 'presidential immunity.'
