Football Penn State Freshmen Intros -- Georgia RB Cameron Wallace

Elite speed referenced 3 times in a few paragraphs. No mention of his elite vision and elite jump cut ability. Ok. I am eager to see what this young man looks like at each 4 month interval for the next 12 months and what position he ends up playing. Can he catch a hot ball..vertical pick with one hand...a very interesting guy to watch to me at least.

Don't get me wrong, he looks and plays fast, but his track times are not elite. Not even close to elite. He didn't finish in the top 25 in GA in either the 100 or 200 last year. He barely broke 11.00 in the 100 and was not close to 22.00 in the 200. For reference sake, 25 boys in GA had times under 10.7 in the 100 and another 25 with times 21.65 or better. Straight ahead speed is not a be-all/end-all metric, obviously, so his ability to break ankles with the speed he does have is more important in football terms.

Would be great to have a KO return specialist that can make a difference other than Singleton. Maybe King Mack? Weren't his 100 times faster?

His straight ahead speed is better. I think that Wallace's cutting ability sets him apart though. If he can make the first guy miss, cut back, and reaccelerate, he should be plenty fast enough for KOs and PRs.

Out of curiosity, how many of the top 25 in GA also play football? If you cross referenced.

Tia.

Exactly....

I'm not nearly that ambitious! Peyton Lewis, the RB in VA we were in on for a while, has run a 10.6 this spring. I was really hoping we would land him. One thing is for certain, the combination of speed and cutting ability is murderous in RBs, WRs, and return men.

Lewis spoke like we were a dream school...then he got a Bama and UGA offer...I think we are still in the mix, but we have RBs committed so...

As I remember Mack had a good many highlights as a returner in H.S. against top competition, so he might have more cutting ability that what your giving him credit for.

100m and 200m are pretty irrelevant in football. Even the 40 is overrated. What is critical is early acceleration, the first three or four steps. Getting up to speed at the snap, or after making a cut. That gets separation.

Also, lots of other things to consider. Vision is huge. Lateral movement. Balance. Look at how Allen runs.

All speed metrics do is measure top end speed. That being said, I will take a fast guy with other skills every day.

I wish they would do a 10 yd test. Show explosiveness, reaction time, anticipation, and acceleration. Would all have to be electronically done for such a short distance but could be very informative.

they do the shuttle and/or the three cone drill. they also feel the standing long jump and jump for height shows leg explosiveness. but others feel people with short legs don't perform as well but are often quicker. so it is a combo of those things.
