Some excellent stuff. I never liked the previous OCs because they tried to force players to fit their system instead of adapting the system to maximize the player’s abilities. Especially when Barkley was the man. With a decent OC, he easily wins the Heisman and we make the playoffs.

Yurcich has shown tremendous adaptability and a willingness to experiment. He puts huge pressure on defenses and the opposing DC. And with the talent they have amassed can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

JoeMo is the only coordinator in the Franklin era that actaully adapted the system to maximize the players ability. He was just stuck with below average QB which greatly limited what he could do.

JoMo put in his system he ran at Fordham. He never adapted to what defenses were going when they heavily keyed on Barkley. By keying on Barkley every play he rarely got the ball in many games…… sometimes less than 15 touches.

That’s s problem with option offenses….. defense can take away your best player by having two guys key on him.

Yurcich has been really impressive. When he arrived at PSU there was all talk about how he never used tight ends, and he has made great use of TEs in so many ways. Last year he made incredibly good use of two talented freshman running backs (they could both block so he came up with that T formation which was just a killer.

This year the backs will be catching a lot more passes out of the backfield, and I bet we see a lot more wide receiver action because Yurcich has a pretty experienced receivers group and a ton of depth.

If PSU gets into a tight game with Ohio State in the 4th quarter and really needs a first down, Yurcich will come up with something more interesting than off tackle.

That is not what happened at all. The offense JoeMo installed to start 2016 was not what he ran at Fordham because he changes every year based on the talent on hand. He ran three very different offenses while there. The first was largely a west coast offense which he used to get UConn of all schools to the Fiesta Bowl which sent Randy Edsal to Maryland. He moved to more of a running spread the next two years because of the talent he had at quarterback. At Penn State, he came in to install what Joe Brady installed at LSU. If Franklin hadn't run Hackenberg off the team, what we would have seen was something very similar to what Joe's understudy Joe Brady ran with Joe Borough at LSU in 2019, only with better talent at most the skill positions. He was fundamentally limited by what Trace could actually do, which wasn't a heck of a lot because he is an option quarterback. It was a a miracle he got what he did out the offense given the lack of talent at quarterback.

Hack wasn't coming back in '16. He was drafted in the 2nd round.

Better RB in Saquon, better TE in Gesicki. Godwin is #3 out of Jefferson and Chase no matter how much I want to cheer for our guy.

Joe Brady got too much credit for having an unreal amount of talent on the team. He made some money off it, but that '19 LSU offense was one of the best ever because of the players, not the coaches.

I could see backs and tight ends being involved heavily, especially short till Allar gets more comfortable.
