McSorley to be Featured on “Hey Rookie Welcome to the NFL”
Hey Rookie debuts April 16 on ESPN at 8:30 p.m.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.– Former Penn State standoutTrace McSorleywill be featured on the upcoming ESPN series: “Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL.” The show debuts Tuesday, April 16 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN.
“Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL” is a three-part NFL Films-produced series features McSorley, Mississippi wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, Arizona State wide receiver N’Keal Harry and LSU linebacker Devin White. The series provides a behind-the-scenes looks atthe soon-to-be NFL rookies through the NFL Scouting Combine, their Pro Days and the 2019 NFL Draft.
McSorley is the fifth Nittany Lion to be featured on the “Hey Rookie” series in the last six years, joining current New York Giant Saquon Barkley (2018), former New York Jet Christian Hackenberg (2016), current Green Bay Packer Adrian Amos (2015) and former Baltimore Raven John Urschel (2014) as participants.
McSorley ended his record-breaking career as the owner of 11 Penn State career records and eight season standards. He was a three-time All-Big Ten second team selection, as well as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and Campbell Trophy finalist. He finished his career as the Penn State career record holder for passing yards (9,899), completions (720), 300-yard passing games (10), 200-yard passing games (28), rushing yards by a quarterback (1,697), rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (30), passing touchdowns (77), total offense yards (11,596), touchdowns responsible for (107) and wins as a starting quarterback (31). McSorley threw at least one touchdown pass in 34-straight games, from the 2016 TaxSlayer Bowl until Indiana in 2018, a Penn State record, which was previously held by Kerry Collins at 14-straight games from 1993-94. He became the first Penn State player and 11th in Big Ten history to eclipse the 10,000-yard mark in total offense.
As a senior, McSorley threw for 2,530 yards and rushed for 798 yards this season, joining Michael Robinson (2005; 2,350 passing, 806 rushing) as the only PSU quarterbacks with 2,000 passing and 700 rushing yards in the same season. He was one of five players in FBS this season to have 2,000 passing yards and 700 rushing yards, joining Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, Virginia’s Bryce Perkins, Ohio University’s Nathan Rourke and Syracuse’s Eric Dungy. McSorley established a Nittany Lion record with 461 total yards against Ohio State (9/29/18), including 286 passing and 175 rushing.
Penn State opens the 2019 campaign against Idaho at Beaver Stadium on Saturday, August 31.
