Shrewsberry Announces Two Additions to Men’s Basketball Staff
Green selected as director of player development; Snow joins program as director of recruiting
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Men’s Basketball Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry announced the addition of two hires Thursday. Mike Green, who recently retired from his professional playing career, moves into the role as director of player development. Brian Snow, a former national recruiting analyst, will serve as the director of recruiting.

Transitioning from a professional playing career to a role on the Penn State staff as director of player development is Mike Green. The Philadelphia product moves to Happy Valley to pursue the next step in his basketball journey.
“Mike has been a very successful player at the college and professional level,” said Shrewsberry. “He will be someone who our guys can sit down with and learn from his experiences about what it takes to reach the highest levels. His knowledge of the game is something that will be very helpful, as he heads our player development program.”

Green showcased his talents in the NBA Summer League for several teams following graduation and joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for preseason camp. His love of the game brought him overseas where the award-winning guard lent his talents to several European teams over the last decade, most recently winning a French Disney Cup Championship. Green led AEK (Greece) to a FIBA Champions League title and Greek Cup in 2018, and was selected the game MVP after scoring 19 points in the final. Prior to joining AEK, he was a key component in regular-season championships for Varese (Italy), Khimki (Moscow, Russia) and Liège (Belgium).
As an undergraduate, Green made his mark on two programs. He was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Freshman Team in 2003-04 after setting Towson freshman records for minutes played (985) and games started (29). Green was the first freshman in Towson basketball history to start every game at point guard. He led the Tigers in assists, averaging more than 4.3 per game, and was the team’s second-leading scorer in each of his two seasons there with a 10.2 scoring average as a freshman and an 11.9 mark as a sophomore.
In his first year at Butler, Green averaged 13.9 points, second on the team, and was tops on the 2006-07 team with 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the NCAA Regional semifinals, a No. 10 ranking and 29 wins, both program bests at the time. With Green as the team’s leader in scoring (14.6), rebounding (6.5) and assists (5.1), the Bulldogs won the 2008 Horizon League championship, posted 30 wins and were ranked as high as eighth nationally.
Green amassed numerous accolades as two-year starter for Butler, including 2007-08 Horizon League Player of the Year, Most Outstanding Player of the 2008 Horizon League Tournament, 2007-08 Horizon League All-Defensive Team, Associated Press All-America honorable mention, 2007-08 Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award winner, 2007-08 Chip Hilton Award winner and 2006-07 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year. In just two years with the Bulldogs, he compiled 316 assists, which placed him sixth on the program’s all-time list. He earned his degree in sociology before embarking on his professional playing career.
Green was a two-time All-Philadelphia Public League player, all-city selection and 1,000-point scorer at Franklin Learning Center. He led the Bobcats to a 22-4 mark and a 13-0 Philadelphia Public League record as a senior, and posted a 39-11 record in his final two seasons.

Former national recruiting analyst Brian Snow becomes Penn State’s director of recruiting. Snow has evaluated thousands of high school prospects to produce accurate rankings and content for one of the largest media corporations dedicated to college sports.
“Since my time at Butler, I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Brian, trying to pick his brain and gather information,” said Shrewsberry. “He is a trusted resource for a lot of coaches because of his evaluations, honesty and connections. There aren’t very many people who are more connected in the basketball world than he is. I’m very happy he’s going to be joining our program. He’s going to be a huge help in our recruiting efforts!”
“Over the last decade, I have gotten to know Coach Shrewsberry very well, and I believe he is one of the smartest and most engaging coaches in the industry,” said Brian Snow. “With his leadership and the incredible staff that he has put together, I can’t wait to be a part of the Penn State basketball program.
