SIAP... Worth repeating...

Maybe it's too early to say the Nittany Lions have completely returned. But if this didn't prove that Penn State's at least on the right track, then nothing will.

Penn State showed it has resilience, playmakers and poise. Now, it finally has a signature win to show for it.

Welcome back, Penn State.

Blocked FG return gives Penn State signature win, shakes up playoff race
play

Penn State doesn't lead until five minutes left in the fourth quarter when an Ohio State field goal attempt is blocked and returned 60 yards by Grant Haley for a touchdown as the Nittany Lions upset the No. 2 Buckeyes 24-21. (1:41)

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- James Franklin has often said he doesn't believe in signature wins.
  • Well, he might have to start.

Penn State fans rushed the field and jumped into players' arms while the team lingered after shocking No. 2 Ohio State -- and the country -- in a come-from-behind, 24-21 win in front of a national audience Saturday night.

It was Penn State’s first win over a top-2 team since a 1990 upset of No. 1 Notre Dame. It was the Nittany Lions' first top-2 win while unranked since 1964.

Franklin promised a return to national prominence on the first day he became the Lions' head coach, back in January 2014. He asked for patience earlier this season, when student-fans chanted "Fire Franklin!" before halftime against Minnesota.

Marcus Allen blocked an Ohio State field goal, with cornerback Grant Haley scooping it up and returning it 60 yards for what would prove to be the game-winning score, the entire stadium shook in celebration. Beaver Stadium hasn't celebrated like this in years.

Franklin entered this game 0-7 against the Big Ten's Big Three -- Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State -- and exited as the big reason for Penn State’s celebration.

In 2005, Penn State upset Ohio State during a White Out. That game marked the end of the Nittany Lions' dark years and a return to prominence.

Maybe it's too early to say the Nittany Lions have completely returned. But if this didn't prove that Penn State's at least on the right track, then nothing will.

Welcome back, Penn State.
