Some interesting discussion here on DeSantis' recent comments about Trump when talking about the possible indictment. He did briefly point out the DA was a politically motivated Soros loser which was great but he couldn't help himself and took some shots at Trump. DeSantis is certainly free to take shots at Trump but this wasn't the time to do it. He could have used this as an opportunity to rally around Trump (someone who greatly helped him get elected in 2018) and against politically motivated banana republic prosecutions and said he would fight the extradition in court (likely to lose but worth a shot and would ingratiate himself with Trump's supporters). It would have been a win win for Ron. He would look good standing up for the Constitution, he'd look good for standing against politicized processes, and he'd look good to Trump supporters.....but nope. He didn't mention any of that and instead used this moment to take his shot. It was politically incompetent for him to go this route.
DeSantis also could have pre-emptively defended himself b/c you know the deep state will come after him with similar tactics, digging stuff up from the past and making nefarious claims about them like his sweetheart deals to child porn perverts as an Assistant US Attorney, illegal use of funds, etc..
DeSantis also never filed any sort of protest with the DOJ over the Mar-A-Lago raid which also likely wouldn't have gone anywhere but would have won some favor with Trump's base.
