We have rankings coming out a day early thanks to Obrats getting results in so fast.

Yes, the rankings still have Iowa as the #1, even though they just got beat by PSU. Still some future tweaks needed for the algorithm, but I can't change it mid-season.

Enjoy :)

Thanks! Don’t worry about the dual ranking, but could you tweak it so we have a 30-40 point tournament lead? 😉

Eight years! 416 weeks of these rankings. Not a single complainer has gotten off their lazy duff and given us their own rankings. But, for sure there are some dents in some walls, and some heads surely hurt from the insanity.

I really think Crusher 1950 opened those rankings expecting something to have changed. Bonk.

Ok, ok, I’m now off my duff with the first weekly Slush Rankings . . .

PSU = Best
Everyone Else = Not Best

Algorithm tweaks contingent on beer donations.

What the hell is going on over there. Returning undefeated national champion Carter S. at #4 behind a guy he just beat Michael Kemerer at number #1. Did they sleep thru a weekend of wrestling, retrograde amnesia, mini stroke, get punched in the head by a Rutger’s dad?!!

Is Karma a real thing? If so, I’d like to ask everyone to please stop bitching about Star’s ranking. Here’s what’s going to happen if you don’t. Kem is gonna remain number 1 through the entire season…even after taking another loss to CStar at Bigs. Then at nationals Kem wins the whole damn thing and WS guys are gonna say , “see, Kem ranking was right all along.” Lol

Of course there is a possibility that after Kem
wins it all, CStar jumps him in the rankings. Lmao

I'm a sick person....but this weekly thread is very entertaining and I look forward to it.

I also try to let it marinade awhile before opening to get a bunch of takes all at once.

Thanks to everyone for making it possible.

Sincerely
A guy who drinks smart water

@andegre - How feasible is something like this and do you think it would add anything to your site?:

We know that the WrestleStat rankings are pretty much a career ranking. How hard would it be to compile a "current year" ranking? That is, you start the wrestlers seeding at the beginning of the year based on their final WrestleStat ranking from the previous season with new wrestlers seeded at the median rank and then for the rest of the season the "current year" ranking would only include current year results and ignore prior seasons in the calculation. I am not sure how that would affect the numbers, but perhaps it may be a better head to head predictor than the career rankings by the end of the season. Any ranking system will need a number of results before its accuracy improves, but a "current year" ranking to me would seem to allow more flexibility for wrestlers to move up and down based on current results.

PS - Love your site and appreciate the service that you provide to us fans!

Can you pick 2 or 3 wrestlers from the end of last season, and work through your scenario, using ELO scores and ranks?

What is a seeding as it pertains to ELO or WS?

Congratulations, by the way, on being one of the few people who can offer a constructive suggestion.

@andegre @obrats Curious. When you have guys in HS like Levi Haines. They’re not on wrestlestat at the moment

When he’s a freshman next year do his results (college opens) from this year count? Or do they start fresh next year?

thanks in advance

Certainly no official answer, but if you look at Nick Lee, they have his 2017/"Sr year of high school" results posted, but his rank history results start with 2018 at the base of 1200
