Hey Wrestling Fans!

We're a couple days late, but we've finally finished implementing some changes to the algorithm to address some of the concerns from prior seasons. There may still be some anomolies out there, but this is signifantly improvement.

Is your new algorithm to copy Saylor's Homework? :) Seriously ....looks much better. Mendez jumping from #69 to #5 would have taken 2 years the old way. The only blip I see is that Yanni is less than 2.5 points ahead of Sasso. Props on the new improved Wrestlestat!

I do not see any big delta from before.

Until ELO is modified to place much more weight in recent matches over older, and increase the weight of head to head matches, it will remain flawed. Tennis, another head to head sport, abandoned ELO long ago for such reasons.

I love wrestlestat and the work they do essentially for free (high five) but the algorithm remains problematic for wrestling.

Case in point - check out Iowa vs PSU in a dual. Warner beats Dean, and Kerk beats Cassi.

A superior model would flip those results based upon a more proper weighting of head to head matches.

No model is perfect, but I wish they would custom tweak the model and test it against some past seasons results until happy with the outcome. I think Andrege is smart enough, and then he could call it his own proprietary algorithm.

Curious about a ranking system that gives Arujau a higher ELO score than Yianni, and ranks Yianni behind six other #1 ranked guys...

FYI - the prediction process has nothing to do with the rankings. That process needs enhanced as well, for the exact reasons that were mentioned (it doesn't weight previous head-to-head matchups at all).

The rankings algorithm DID factor in head-2-head, as well as some other enhancements.

You'll notice both RBY and Starroci are both ranked #1 now, which they weren't before.

"Latona Beats Mendez 3-2. Hype train in for repairs"

Maybe it should take more than four matches to move from 69 to 5.
