FB Recruiting We are better....2023 WR Yazeed Haynes

I know football with no pads isn't determinant of much, but in the few videos I saw of this kid he looks like an absolute BALLER. Big, quick feet, catches with his hands.

Great link Woody, thanks

Also don't forget some of these kids and families can not afford to get to all the camps to up star rating, profiles and such.
Covid may have impacted his ability to go to camps as well as play in actual games as an underclassman. North Penn is a big school and plays lots of high profile teams. It’s not like he’s coming from some small school out in the middle of nowhere. Looks like he was one of the stars at the rivals Philadelphia camp on May 15.

Wonder what the comments were when ARob, Deon Butler and Graham Zug committed to PSU??

ARob - probably something along the lines of "we are just doing this to keep Bolden"

Butler - probably no excitement but as bad as our WRs were in '03 and '04, anybody had to seem like they had upside.

Zug - failing to remember anything.

Over six feet tall and that fast? Hell yeah!
Exactly. Regardless of stars he could have a high ceiling and seems worth taking. Once you factor in that he's rising up the ranks and has impressed in recent camps it seems PSU got in early and he's only going to get more offers in the future.

Given that the coaches know more about the recruits than anyone here (or the "expert" evaluators), and the coaches are much better talent evaluators, maybe in the coaches plan it was "we are just taking Bolden to keep ARob........"

The coaches are 11-11 in their last 22 games. Perhaps the coaches don't actually know more.

This is a recruiting thread. Everyone should already know that COVID shutdowns and a few key injuries this past season were the major reasons why the last 2 seasons didn't go as planned.

And also that Franklin has a very good record identifying talent, which is why a good many of his early offers (i.e. players he identified as very talented and offered before many and a good many times "any" of the top programs offered end up as high end P5 players and NFL draft picks. Fields come to mind. Miller who just flipped to UGA may end up being another.

PSU has had its fair share of coaching turnover over the last couple of years which likely contributed to the team's very pedestrian record. The new staff members were working with players that were recruited by their predecessors. This year should tell the tale whether these guys are the right guys.

They won their last 4 games in a row in 21 and the first 5 in 22 before Clifford got hurt….so that’s 9 wins a row with a healthy Clifford. I mean since we’re cherry picking stats, let’s cherry pick.

Those 4 teams we beat in 2020......

2-4
3-6
2-5
2-6

Any team with a pulse beat us.

Also, Clifford himself said he was damn near 100% by the Ohio State game last year. From the OSU game forward, we went 2-4 -- only beating Maryland and Rutgers. Hard to use the "Clifford was hurt" excuse beyond the Iowa and Illinois games when he and the coaches all stated openly that he was good to go by Halloween.

None of that considers Franklin's 9-game losing streak against top-10 teams. It's not a Sean Clifford thing. It's a James Franklin thing.

Anyway......Haynes has had a pretty good spring, so there's reason for optimism there. The staff has proven itself capable of identifying solid talent. That has never been the issue.

Of course Clifford said he was close to 100% because whatever other faults he may have, he’s a warrior who doesn’t make excuses.

This is probably the last time we've seen something like this.

"The Nittany Lions had recruited Robinson heavily the last year, but wanted him to improve his ACT/SAT scores before officially offering him."

The staff was cautious with Clifford before the Illinois game. They did not appear to show that same caution before the OSU game. In fact, Clifford played fairly well against OSU. One of his better games, actually.

Using Clifford's injury is a valid excuse for why we lost @ Iowa, and at least a part of why we were so horrific against Illinois offensively. Clearly Clifford was limited -- particularly in the run game. But his injury at Iowa hardly explains the rest of the season. I realize we as fans are always looking to explain why things didn't go the way we had hoped. In reality, we just haven't been very good the past two years -- particularly up front, coupled with inconsistent QB play. That'll do it.

Four-Star, top 250 kid -- offers from BC, UMD, Minnesota, Ole Miss, RU and WVU. If he camped more, he would have had a ton more offers.

Ran a 4.39 at PSU camp two weekends ago.
Agreed. A lot of the "stars" are simply offers and other recruiting sites. Kids simply mature at different speeds and rates. A kid can be a washout as a 15-year-old and be great at age 18. Didn't MJ get cut from Jr high? There are a lot of 3 star kids in the NFL. Hell, NFL has tons of kids from MAC schools. Bottom line is that the staff has to scout and believe their eyes. This kid showed up and wowed them at 6-1 and lower than a 4.4. Gotta love that regardless of what a scouting site says.

247 has him as the #78 WR in the country (had him at #83) whereas Rivals has him at #33. Maybe 247 is slowing catching up! Big difference with the "experts ratings."

He was a recent addition to the UGA summer camp and it appears he has now canceled the trip.

we lost at Illinois because Bret Bielma completely outsmarted Franklin/ Pry when he started running the over loaded O line and Franklin/ Pry never adapted to it

I actually disagree with this.

PSU was nursing a lead. SC got reinjured on a cheap shot (that wasn't called) by Ill. The staff didn't want to relive the Iowa fiasco so simply would not pull SC out even though it was clear he was hurt, couldn't throw and couldn't run.

We only gave up 3 points in the second half. (not counting overtimes). That wasn't a failure on defense, it was a failure on Offense. Our leading rusher had 42 years and SC was 19 of 34 for 165 yards. (again, including 9 overtimes). His QB Rating was 21.8.

we also had like four or five chances to win it at the end of the game and in overtime and individual players did not make their plays
