OT: USA COVID-19 Vaccination Updates

Army Cuts Off More Than 60K Unvaccinated Guard and Reserve Soldiers from Pay and Benefits

I just had a conversation where someone tried to tell me that no pilots or nurses lost their jobs due to refusing the Fauci Ouchie.
which at this point in the pandemic makes no sense. the vaccine no longer 'protects' others as it does not stop infection or transmission. so what is the point now to require vaccination considering that is the case. at least when the vaccine came out it did stop infection/transmission in 90%+ of people, so getting the vaccine could lead to herd immunity. but now, omicron has rendered the vaccine more a therapeutic than vaccine so makes zero sense to require it and even less sense to fire people in valuable positions because of it.

goes to show again....what is this about....POWER and CONTROL not science.

It baffles me the lack of scientific knowledge and critical thought throughout the medical field. I think maybe most doctors are good memorizers and rule followers or maybe just very pigeon holed in their field.

It's like the virologists that want everything shut down to bring the covid risk to a minimum (it doesn't, people holed up in large apartment complexes are at considerably more risk staying at home 24/7) while simultaneously not understanding all of the risks that they are increasing in so many other areas with the covid-only focus. It's like their brains can only operate with one independent variable and all else must be held constant or they short circuit.
Agree.

I know this cuts against the grain of the narrative, but the medical field has failed during this crisis - especially the “political doctors” like Fauci…utterly failed.

It started with the transparent denials about the funny business going on in Wuhan…and the non-scientific based lock downs and cloth/paper masks, the partially failed vaccines, and the still ongoing fear porn.

Someone should be held accountable!

I am highly critical of the decision by hospital administrators and doctors offices to shut down nearly all other functions during the lockdown phase of this

1) creating huge wait lists for surgeries and other procedures that increased risk for millions

2) destroying many major hospital revenue streams resulting in major layoffs of medical staff during a pandemic

3) building up millions of new and unnecessary dry tinder via not diagnosing or treating early heart disease and cancer

4) forcing vaccination of staff or firing them

5) severely restricting medical doctors in treatment protocols particularly in cases of doctors treating patients with anything that might expose the emergency use approval of the vaccines by providing a viable alternative treatment (no doubt many were lost because they were not allowed to treat with emerging alternatives to top down forced treatment protocols)

6) continuing to force covid patients to die alone without family

7) continuing to make people wear masks that have almost zero effectiveness (either use the n95 or let's stop pretending)

8) continuing limiting visitation for many hospitalized

9) no joke, limiting outside food brought in for visitation as part of the covid policy as if it were transmitted via food

You could go on and on but the point is that the medical community has made so many decisions that made things worse and continues to do so in some ways. It's like they had no one who actually understood science or could anticipate negative consequences of completely changing everything they do. And anyone who did understand that was silenced or let go. Now I know many medical professionals deserve to be thanked for enduring the chaos to continue care but I wish more were willing to come forward to voice concerns with the total upheaval of normal and established medical care practices.

It was, and continues to be, shocking at how ill prepared our medical community was in the first six months. Even worse, post vaccine, it was clear the entire system was corrupt.

  1. Shaming anyone who dared say it was man-made
  2. Censoring anyone who said it was man-made
  3. ridiculous protocols like one-way shopping lanes and cloth masks
  4. shots for kids (all deaths "involving" covid are ~ 1,000 for ages 0-17)
  5. The playing with numbers to hide the fact that mortality is an issue of age and the statistics for side affects of the vaccines
  6. Ongoing cover-ups
I mean, honestly, we've lost ~ 1,000,000 in the USA and 6,350,000 worldwide (assuming the stats are anywhere near accurate) and we don't even have curiosity as to why. we've had more investigation into some crazy loon shooting up a 4th of July parade killing 9 than 6 million people dead.

I really have lost any faith in politicians, media, medical industry.....now more than ever, I feel like I am on my own and don't listen to any single source for information. I look at the best statistics I can find and make my own choices.

And crazy enough, there are two people in our office who are now wearing masks when out in common areas. They are the two youngest people in our office, both late 20's/early 30's and both healthy. I want to ask them why they are wearing masks just to truly understand why but I know it will only somehow come back to bite me so it will remain in mystery.
And one of the guys wearing the mask just tested positive for Covid. At least when he told everybody in the office nobody freaked out like they would have 2 years ago. Now it is more like 'that suck, get better'.

9) no joke, limiting outside food brought in for visitation as part of the covid policy as if it were transmitted via food
The war on coffee was particularly amusing. Wife is a nurse. Facility staff cafeteria disarmed the damn coffee pots and soda fountain. Any highway rest stop you went to, even the crappy coffee vending machines were "out of order." And of course every other urinal was taped off. Like overcrowding at the line of wee-wee is a problem anyway. Go into Sheetz and they wouldn't let you fill your mug, you had to order a coffee from the people behind the counter. Just complete insanity. But it saved millions of lives, no doubt. I bet half the world would be dead now if not for these idiotic policies. Where exactly was the science behind coffee being the dominant vector for covid? Here I thought it was wet market pangolins.

this thread is for daily updates on vaccinations given per day in the USA, and discussion about that.

I'm separating this out from the COVID-19 Testing & Treatment thread that's been on the board for most of the pandemic in the hope that thread can continue to focus on COVID-19 testing & treatment, and this thread can focus on COVID-19 vaccinations in the USA.

And while this seems to be a challenge for some of you when discussing this subject, please do not bring politics into this thread.

This New ‘Ninja’ COVID Variant Is the Most Dangerous One Yet

So we are having a catered lunch brought in for our office as we do every summer, some BBQ from Mission and some other local favorites. So we invite all the remote workers into the office as well as some of the key management and staff from our parent office that we interact with on a frequent basis. So two of those guys show up today from the other office and the younger guy, early 30's has a mask on. So we have 4 people now in our office wearing masks, all four of them are in their late 20' through late 30's in age, all healthy people. Nobody over 40 wearing a mask.

And if you ask them why, they really don't have much of an answer. So I don't catch Covid. And then when you push and throw a little science at them, it comes back that it doesn't bother me to wear it so why do you care. Scares me a little about our future.

I just say that I'm glad that we didn't have to fight the Axis powers in WW II with today's 20 and 30 year olds.

Yes, like when the Chinese decide the time is right…these healthy 20-something mask wearers will fold up like a cheap suit.

I have older kids, late teens/early 20's. it scares me some how I am seeing this younger generation without a sort of 'FU' attitude that most younger generations have. There is so much more of a hive, socialist mentality that are looking to be led. Obviously this is not 99.9% of the generation, but a much, much larger percentage it seems than previous generations.

Did any of these individuals actually ever interact with people? For many, this is there new blankie.

in that sense, they are not shying away from contact and locking themselves in their office and never coming out. I can tell one guy gets a little nervous if anybody gets too close to him but he doesn't actually do anything about it like move away or ask you to step back.

I just wondered if they were extreme introverts or just became that way and now have found solace in the mask.

Social media and algorithms make it easier to control, to force group think on a massive scale, to target with a more granular message that works for individuals with individualized messaging.

Many kids group think but they weren't targeted with precise messaging that works on the jock south Carolina, the dancer from Ohio, the artist from NY, the surfer from California, the farmer from Iowa, and the science geek from Texas. The algorithm knows what makes them tick and drives the to connect to the same groups and ideas.

Then there is the pressure to be herded into socially acceptable views and actions that are monitored remotely with no where to escape if you color outside the lines. Threat of bullying by 20 kids with an escape at home from class in previous generations is now threat of bullying by hundreds or thousands 24/7. Conform or else.

So yesterday I am in one of the guy's office that wears a mask that I was talking about. Another guy comes in and Covid comes up a little as the other guy asked how he was feeling (he has some long covid type of fatigue issues even a month out from getting it). Anyway, he says I jsut don't know if I can get it again, etc...and since I am sitting there I explain that if you had Alpha or Delta then basically you can get omicron as it has little ability to combat infection. If you had original Omicron, the current re-infection rate for the new variants is about 12% the last data I saw. And that re-infection with 3 months is basically not happening.

So I see him at coffee machine this morning, no mask. So he basically understood he is safe for a while and took the mask off.

That's great. Next you'll need to explain how the dimensions between the threads of the mask are orders of magnitude larger than aerosolized covid particles.

I can't believe that you could be this misinformed to make that statement. Why is it that N95 masks are recognized as effective if your statement was accurate? How could you not know smaller virus particles normally attach themselves to larger respiratory aerosolized droplets which are trapped by the mask. Also, small virus droplets can still be trapped by multiple layers of mask fibers that are electrostatically charged. Science!!!!

there has been ample discussion about requiring mandatory well fitting N-95 masks is different then a surgical or cloth mask.

In addition, if you are vaccinated and/or have already had covid. and if you have done your best in the past 2 years to become more heathy (as obviously you are super concerned about covid if you are masker) and you are avoiding large crowded areas as much as possible, then the incremental benefit of a mask compared to vaccine, staying as healthy as possible, you wearing a N-95 mask yourself, minimizing time spent in enclosed areas with poor ventilation...the additive risk of me wearing a mask is about nothing.

1) N95 masks properly fitted do have appreciable effectiveness in reducing aerosolized virus. That is not under debate.

2) Over 99% of larger aerosolized droplets settle on surfaces (are you aware of the concept of gravity) in less than a minute. Stopping those with a mask is only going to impact extremely close distance exposure and extremely short duration. Almost all viral transmission is not from such a close proximity and short duration exposure. That does not overwhelm the innate immune response. The cloth mask only protects against virus particles attached to larger aerosolized particles that would fall to a surface in seconds within a few feet of the wearer. This is not an appreciable source of transmissions.

3) Particles 10 micrometers or less (aerosolized covid not attached to larger droplets) remain suspended in the air (due to their relatively light weight) for minutes to hours. The buildup of this suspended aerosolized covid not attached to large droplets and therefore not appreciably stopped by masks with thread spacing about 200 micrometers in diameter (20 times the size of covid virus) over time increases the density of suspended viral load in an enclosed space.

4) Increasing the exchange of suspended virus with air outside the enclosed space decreases a person's effective dose of covid virus (viral density times duration of exposure). So increased ventilation appreciably reduces chances of enough virus to overcome innate response and initiate infection.

5) Reducing the number of infectious persons in the enclosed space and/or the duration they were in the enclosed space reduces suspended viral density in the air and therefore appreciably reduces infection of others in that enclosed space.

6) Reducing the exposure duration appreciably reduces the effective dose of virus thus reducing infection probability.

7) Wearing a fitted N95 mask appreciably reduces the probability of infection because it has a tested 95% efficiency of collection against particles with a median diameter of 75 nanometers which is close to the covid virus diameter.

8) Wearing an unfitted, probably not washed for months, cloth mask is NOT APPRECIABLY reducing infection probability (see points 2 and 3 above). Plus half the people wearing these aren't covering their nose or have significant macro sized gaps in fitting at the nose and near the sides of the mouth. So as worn, the unfitted cloth masks aren't even collecting that much of the covid particles that are attached to larger aerosolized particles.

I was a laboratory program director at a major university. You aren't going to stump me with your cursory level understanding of the science.

LOL... next time don't post silly and unclear over-generalizations.

Translation: you are well aware that cloth masks don't appreciably reduce infections
Nope, that's not the translation, my words were clear, don't post silly over-generalizations.
btw... are you referring to "cloth" or "surgical" masks? LOL, yanking your chain is so easy.

So you are a science denier? Either you understand that cloth masks don't appreciably reduce covid infections or you are ignorant or denying the science. Which one?

You suck at mind reading.
This is some tell us you are avoiding the questions without telling us you are avoiding the questions. Go on record. Do you believe cloth masks provide appreciable protection against covid infections? We're waiting.

You suck at mind reading AND making reasonable assumptions, you're pretty good at deflection attempts.

So went in for annual. Walked in without mask and was promptly handed one. I said we’re back to masks and they said we never stopped. I said that’s a shame since all the studies say masks make very little difference and only the N95 ones help. Then I looked around and three of the four front office people were wearing clothe masks, the other had on the blue paper ones. They didn’t say anything and I realized they were just wearing them because they were required to.

Go to examine room, nurse takes vitals......wearing a clothe mask.

Physicians assistant comes in with paper mask........below his nose! During questions I tell him I had original vax but no boosters. He said he didn’t get boosters either. I mentioned how poorly masks work and he said his two daughters wore them for two years and now their allergies and hay fever is worse than ever. Said it’s because their immune systems lost some of their ability to react quickly.

Pretty damn sad.

The war on coffee is apparently over.
On a side note, the secretary and myself ripped down all the Covid signs the company had put up at the start of the pandemic. I just got so tired of looking at them so I started to randomly take them down one at a time so nobody would notice. The secretary saw me taking one down and said 'finally' and she also started to randomly remove some. Now the only one's left are some signs on the break room table that say 'sit here only' (basically every other chair) which were stuck on the table and are going to take a razor blade to scrape off.

Did the same thing where I work 6 weeks ago or so. This 8 1/2 x 11 paper somebody printed off the internet and taped to the wall in the mens' crapper. All this stuff about washing your hands and covid. "What is Coronavirus?" I think was the header. As you read down through it it said "for more information about coronavirus click here." Brilliant. A piece of paper taped to the wall for three years. Not anymore.

Do you really want to sit that close to someone when eating lunch anyway?
