The following year, Eakin emailed Baxter and four other people a joke about a woman who complains to her doctor that her husband "beats me to a pulp" when he comes home drunk. The doctor advises her to swish sweet tea in her mouth and not to swallow until her husband is asleep. The punchline from the doctor: "You see how much keeping your mouth shut helps?"

This is a tasteless, nasty and stupid joke in any setting, if told by anyone. But Eakin is a PA supreme court justice. They are called upon to fairly judge the matters brought before them, including intimate partner murders and abuse of all kinds. No question he should be gone, since there are other similar tropes throughout this material. Only the victim identities change. He is an Omni-bigot.

The REAL issue here is not Eakin, that ought to be settled as of now. No, the real question is why in the hell has it taken so long for someone to DO something? How long has the Judicial Ethics board known about this? How long have his fellow supremes known about this?

But you see this protection of one another is going to be exposed now. Why? Kathleen Kane.

Very few AGs in the nation have succeeded in taking down Supreme Court justices.

Pretty darn good for somebody who the yokels want us to believe is a rank amateur...."out of her league."

Very few Supreme Court justices have been deserving of being taken down. On the flip side, very few State Attorneys General have been charged criminally. This does not mean I am taking a position against Kane on this. I am not. I just think there is a lot we don't know and I am willing to wait for more information.

And even fewer (if any) by a county prosecutor, I would think. And, truthfully, that is all I need to know.

Well, I believe there is going to be a whole lot more on all sides of this mess before it's all said and done. I blame no one for making judgments at this point, but I will not.

I agree, but Ernie Preate was charged by the feds in 1995, so it is not like it never happens in PA. From Wikipedia: "He pled guilty to mail fraud involving a $20,000.00 campaign contribution[7] and served a year in Federal prison.[3][5][8] He was succeeded as Attorney General by Tom Corbett, who later went on the become Governor of Pennsylvania."

Isn't it funny to see that name pop up? Kind of takes us right back around to the beginning, no?:)

Sadly we've got a history of political corruption at all levels in Pennsylvania, and it's only natural to line up on one side or the other of this one. I am trying not to do that because I believe things will look much worse for all parties involved before the final chapter is written and I am willing to wait for the additional information.

It's fair. We also forget that it is entirely possible that both Kane AND her accusers are corrupt as junkie pimps. We so often get stuck on binary analysis, and forget the most likely of possibilities.:)

This is kind of where my head is on this. The big difference is that Fina, Corbett, et. al were part of the "ole boys club" and got away with doing x, y, z. Kane wasn't part of the ole boys club and when she tried doing the same x, y, and z, all of a sudden its all bad now. I hope everyone spills all the dirty laundry they have on the other team, and let the citizens decide what should happen. Wishful thinking though I'm afraid.

Well... There is one thing... I would think Hollywood is drooling over the rights to make this into a movie especially if Kane survives...

Has everything... Old established guard... New young.. Pretty ..aggressive AG wanting to make a change... Classic battle.. Who wins?

Who would be the female lead?

Now sure how Eakin is surviving as Supreme Court Justice when the other SC Justice was forced out for the same email scandal.

I'd go with Julia Roberts. She did a great job portraying someone battling the system in Erin Brockovich.

Supreme Court justices in PA have been taken down before, and relatively recently. Look up Rolf Larson.

Several critical differences.

The "other SC Justice" was Seamus McCaffery. He was from Philadelphia. When it came out that he had sent and received porn on Commonwealth computers, the Chief Justice was Ron Castille. He (Castille) did not like McCaffery. Castille has retired since McCaffery resigned, as he reached the mandatory retirement age for PA judges, so he's not involved in the dynamics of what to do with Justice Michael Eakin.

Also keep in mind that McCaffery, at the time he was identified as being involved in porngate, was already facing 2 issues. Justice Eakin (the same one, no less) had publicly accused McCaffery of trying to coerce him (Eakin) into taking McCaffery's side in his dispute with Castille. The fellow SC justices, based on Eakin's accusation, had suspended McCaffery (Eakin abstained from the vote on this). In the suspension they had directed the PA Judicial Conduct Board to determine whether there was probable cause to file formal misconduct charges against McCaffery. If that wasn't enough, McCaffery was already being investigated by the PA Judicial Conduct Board for prior accusations that he has permitted his wife, who served as his chief legal clerk, to collect referral fees from law firms to whom she directed clients that brought issues to Justice McCaffery's office.

McCaffery's resignation due to porngate was absolutely a little more convoluted. Castille offered McCaffery that if he'd resign, then the suspension would be lifted, and the Judicial Conduct Board investigation would end. Part of the agreement was also that McCaffery would not seek senior judge status, and not see future judicial positions.

If McCaffery had been impeached for any of the aforementioned issues (porngate, the Eakin accusation, or permitting his wife/employee to collect retainer fees), then he could have lost his pension. Instead, he retained his $134,000 per year pension from the State Employees' Retirement System.

Currently, the Chief Justice is Thomas Saylor. I don't think he has an ongoing dislike of Justice Eakin. Plus, I'm not aware of any issues that Justice Eakin has before the Judicial Conduct Board.

Only time will tell if Justice Eakin will resign due to his e-mails that were discovered in porngate.

Waiting to see what Midnighter thinks, but I'll nominate Jaimie Alexander from "Blindspot."

Thanks Tom. Some of this I knew and forgot, some of it I never knew. Where you really see the mark corruption leaves on a government is when people hang on who ought to resign. Connected people who it seems cannot commit any offense sufficient to make them voluntarily get out.

As I have said, I am appalled that a supreme court justice is in this box and has not already resigned voluntarily. That is a sign, to me, that he is not possessed of a conscience. That, further, the regulatory bodies over judges and his own colleagues have not publicly blasted him out of his seat by now is simply astonishing--the kind of situation that you would assume would take place in Louisiana or Nevada or Miami or some other place that is totally mobbed up.

I also was looking at the kids for cash Wikipedia, and was reminded that there was another judge in the same courthouse who was charged with misconduct BEFORE "K for C" broke, Luzerne Co. Judge Anne Lokuta. In the course of looking into allegations that she used court employees to do her personal work ( I assume like picking up her drycleaning and mowing her yard or whatever) the disciplinary board found out from her some things about K for C.

Made me think of Kathleen Kane's recent indictment.

She'd be perfect for the role, in 2035.

Off topic, the photo you posted here is FAR racier than 95% of the so-called "porn emails." Are you trying to make a point or are you confused as to what we're all supposed to be upset about with those? Or are we supposed to be outraged only when other people post/send racy pictures?

"FAR RACIER" than the joke I posted at the start this thread? REALLY? Huh. So a picture that she put out, without demeaning commentary, is "far racier" than a "joke" about how domestic violence is the fault of women?

And last I checked nobody was asking ChiTown to sit in judgement on cases of spousal murder. AND, ChiTown did not post this using taxpayer dollars, on government time. Wow, that is some sort of record for fatuous comparisons.

Dude - look up "fatuous" - The "joke" in your first post was on a yahoo.com account. So there's no indication whatsoever that it used taxpayer dollars or time. Next.

I don't know if that is the dumbest post of the month, the DPOTM........probably not.

May not even be the DPOTWeek........its been a pretty strong week for dumb posts.

But it is certainly the early clubhouse leader for DPOTDay......and looks like it may be strong enough to stand up all day.
