Clemson and USC fans weren't thrilled when Swinney and Helton were given a chance but they turned out to be pretty good. Now a days everyone wants an established head coach as their hire. Every HC was once an assistant. Seems we did alright with Joe and Billo.

When the AC was hired by the head coach who just got fired.

If the HC leaves for a new position or to retire then I see the logic behind appointing someone on the staff. But when the HC is fired you're likely going to go outside. Dabo & Helton were fortunate that they took over mid-season and got to audition for the job.

I think Coach Helton's fortunes are about to change for the worse with Chip across town.
