Saw this over on the USCHO fan forum and thought that I'd share here. One of the fans there is using a simulator from CHW (based on KRACH) to play out one "What If" scenario for the rest of the college hockey season. The fan is running the simulations on the day that games would have been played. In that simulation, PSU won the B1G Tourney and finished 7th in the Pairwise (same as where it started!). NCAAs are up next.

B1G Semifinals

Minnesota @ Penn State:
The first B1G Semifinal saw the Golden Gophers skate with the Nittany Lions in a barn-burner in Happy Valley. Minnesota's netminder Jack LaFontaine stood on his head in the opening twenty minutes, stopping all 14 Penn State shots on goal. The Gophers scored the game's first goal with just over thirty seconds left in the first period, as Sammy Walker found the back of the net. Penn State finally solved LaFontaine early in the second on the powerplay, as Nikita Pavlychev grabbed a rebound on the side of the crease and slammed it home to knot the game at 1. The Nittany Lions took their first lead of the game midway through the second when Evan Barratt took advantage of a sloppy pass in the neutral zone to skate in all alone. Barratt ripped a forehand past LaFontaine's outstretched glove to give PSU the 2-1 lead. Penn State took a 3-1 lead a few minutes later, when Cole Hults blasted a slapshot from the blue line that found its way into the net. The Gophers responded just seconds into the third period, when Walker found a streaking Tyler Nanne, whose slapper from the far circle went bar down to put the Gophers back within one. Minnesota then had consecutive powerplays midway through the third, but Nittany Lion goaltender Peyton Jones stood tall, stopping all six shots faced in that stretch. Jones continued to pick up the puck well down the stretch, and while the Gophers staged a flurry of attack in the waning minutes, Jones was able to keep them off the scoreboard, giving Penn State a 3-2 victory to advance to the B1G Championship next weekend.

Big Ten Championship

Michigan @ Penn State
The Penn State Nittany Lions hosted the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Championship Game. Michigan started off strong, as Jake Slaker found Cam York for an early tally to put the Wolverines up 1-0. Penn State roared back, scoring three consecutive goals, including a powerplay goal by Sam Sternschein, and even-strength goals by Liam Folkes and Connor McMenamin, which gave the Nittany Lions a 3-1 advantage after one period of play. Michigan responded early in the second. After an offensive zone faceoff win, Jack Summers launched a wrister on net that Penn State’s Peyton Jones fended off, but the rebound fell on Nick Pastujov’s backhand, who roofed the puck over Jones blocker to pull Michigan within a goal. Michigan continued its charge, tying the game midway through the second period on Slaker’s wrister that slid through Jones’ five-hole. Jones and his Michigan counterpart, Strauss Mann, held the skaters scoreless over the next twenty-five minutes, but with just over five-minutes to play, Penn State’s Aarne Talvitie ripped a wrister from the top of the near circle that beat Mann glove-side, and went bar down to put Penn State ahead 4-3. The Nittany Lions’ Evan Barratt added an empty netter with just under sixty seconds to play, and the home crowd erupted when the clock read all zeroes, as their Nittany Lions dispatched the Wolverines 5-3 to capture the Big Ten Championship.

Selection Sunday (Page 9)
PSU gets a 2 seed, as expected, and draws UMass-Lowell, a team that beat PSU 2-3 in OT earlier in the season. Minnesota State is the 1 seed in the Midwest with Western Michigan the 4. Ohio State and Michigan also made the tournament.

Allentown (March 28-29, 2020)
3 Minnesota State
7 Penn State
10 Mass.-Lowell
14 Western Michigan
