He's looking at a very limited "slice of the pie"

Any question at all that the Scoundrels of Lubert/Dambly Inc haven't stolen at least as much over the last 5 years?
[that's a rhetorical, by the way]
For one dollar I'll guess your weight, your height, or your sex.

throw in indirect costs and it is $500 million. BOT and Corbett planned this all along. it all comes out of the PSU Endowment in the end as that is where the money will have to come from as the state isn't going to give it to them and tuition can only be raised so much. BOT knew they had that endowment as a piggy bank.

Yeah, but they would have done that without Sandusky.
No question

But the "handling" of the "Sandusky Situation"....and the corruption....are, IMO, directly related.

Of course, I've been saying that for the better part of a decade

Based on the actions of the BOT (INCLUDING the A9), the Politicos, and.....everyone else........one might think I was the only one who sees that.
(Truth be told, there is no way in hell that I see this as anything as benign as "ignorance" - in fact, I find the "ignorance" alibi to be laughable........but it doesn't appear that the number of folks concerned enough to so much as lift a finger would be enough to even fill out a decent poker table)

A large part of the reason - if I am to get all "self-analytical" - for my complete and utter lack of patience with STOOPID people of all makes and models......but that's a whole 'nuther issue.

I think all living alumni should sue the BOT for ruining their reputations.
Maybe they could start by electing 9 representatives to the BOT who actually gave a damn about serving as stewards of the University?

I don't know how much good that would do.......I really don't
But I know it would be a move in a positive direction.....and something that could actually BE DONE.......as opposed to consternating about Stephen A Smith, Dan Bernstein, and Reese Davis.

Corruption in PA seems to be deeply ingrained. Why are state legislators paid so much? PA isn't a top five (or ten or fifteen) state in wealth, but it pays it's politicians like it is.

Change isn't going to come from the BOT-why would it- you need to douche out Harrisburg with a fire hose.

Nice Job, BOT. And to think their day job is serving as leaders of industry. Remind me not to put my 401(k) in any one of the BOT's employers.

When this Scandal broke in November 2011, about two days into it I said to myself, "$300 million in costs coming due to this mess." Could easily be $500 million if you add up indirect costs. So, the numbers cited make me sad but don't surprise me, I considered them inevitable once Curley and Schultz were indicted.

Years ago I was talking to a guy who was in the road building business, and his company was re-doing a section of I-80 near our town of Clarion. He explained to me that the initial contracts were awarded to many different outfits, and that some followed the specs, and some didn't, and that was a reason for the great disparity in the condition of the road in different sections. I asked him how they got away with it. His reply was that Pennsylvania had been around a long time, and that "after nearly 300 years, they had pretty much perfected graft and corruption".

Sadly, those numbers were not inevitable.

It's just the way things are in this world, but when there is some sort of scandal we probably only find out about half of what actually happened. That is certainly the case with the Sandusky business. What surprised me the most was that the FBI seemed to show no interest in TSM. I can understand corrupt PA officials and certain PSU BOT individuals trying to keep it covered up but not the FBI.

From article. Curious what the strategy is here. Double down by tacking on additional charges to pressure the judge to proceed with the case?

ADMINISTRATORS' CRIMINAL CASE

A senior judge sitting in Harrisburg is considering a request by three former high-ranking Penn State administrators to throw out their criminal charges, following an oral argument that was held in Harrisburg in October.

Former Penn State President Graham Spanier, former Athletic Director Tim Curley and former Vice President Gary Schultz are accused of not responding properly to McQueary's 2001 complaint that Sandusky was sexually abusing a boy in a team shower. They are also accused of putting children in danger.

The attorney general's office wants to add a new count, of conspiracy to commit endangering the welfare of children, against all three defendants. Judge John Boccabella has not indicated when he might rule.

The three men have consistently maintained their innocence.

The idea that these guys are still charged, and that this has dragged on, just absolutely blows my mind. I used to think that if I were ever a wrongly accused person, I would gladly take my chances in the court system with a jury. Now I think just the opposite. God help you.

Let's see what the costs are at MSU.

The OAG wants to add a new count because they claim the supreme court screwed up in dismissing a conspiracy count.

If I understand the MSU scandal correctly. the accused was sexually molesting University Athletes as well as young children he came in contact with through his affiliation with gymnastics. What has not been determined is the origin and identity of victims that are depicted in tens of thousands of images of child pornography. Images that curiously were absent in the case of Sandusky, one of the "worst serial pedophiles in history."
Unlike the Sandusky situation, we have victims who filed contemporaneous complaints of their sexual abuse with the proper university authorities. The MSU Athletic Department Training Staff and Supervisors were put on notice.....not once but several times over a twenty year period.
I believe the liability at MSU is greater than that at PSU as their own athletes were being raped on campus. It will be interesting to compare the costs and the "stain" on the good name of MSU with what happened at PSU. I'll be happy to credit the difference in results to Surma, Frazier, Suhey, Peetz, Masser and the rest of the Ship of Fools.
