Anyone feel a definite momentum shift?

“But the reality is that with the smartest minds and so much money and the very best of intentions, San Francisco became a cruel city. It became so dogmatically progressive that maintaining the purity of the politics required accepting—or at least ignoring—devastating results”

If by "shift," you mean toward sanity, it's a little late for that. The damage extends well beyond the toll of wrecked streets and ruined lives.

Everything Dem-Media and its ideology of totalitarian nihilism touches turns to shit. People...cities...institutions...nations...everything. Ukraine is learning that the hard way. The Ukies threw in with Dem-Media and its senile front-man. Fatal mistake.

As for the Dem-Mediacrat chick who wrote this piece, I have zero sympathy for her or her city. Their sick little experiment in Wokeism was doomed to fail. Anyone surprised by this is a hopeless idiot. In fact, the only people I have sympathy for are the ones who opposed it from the beginning but didn't have the power to stop it.

San Francisco: the city RWNJ's LOVE to hate. Meanwhile, it's another beautiful day here. Went wine tasting in Napa yesterday (Hendry Vineyards; I highly recommend the place), and am looking forward to watching Game 5 of the Finals tonight. Where is it being played, again? Oh yeah. San Francisco. GO DUBS!!

I stopped reading after this:

Once, when I was walking and a guy tore my jacket off my back and sprinted away with it, I didn’t even shout for help. I was embarrassed—what was I, a tourist? Living in a failing city does weird things to you. The normal thing to do then was to yell, to try to get help—even, dare I say it, from a police officer—but this felt somehow lame and maybe racist.

What kind of mental gymnastics do you have to go through in order to believe that calling the police is racist and right after getting assaulted? Even though her story appears to suggest that she and a majority of the city has learned a lesson, I seriously doubt it. The other comment that caught my attention was the dead homeless guy who wasn't noticed by authorities for eleven hours. I'm just surprised that the other bums didn't try to consume his remains.

He's the type of clown that went down with the Titanic while drinking wine. Trying to get off, he jumped in front of women and children. San Francisco is a damn disgrace.
That’s why so many people want to live there that property values are the highest in the country.
Its you selfish nazis that would jump in front of women and children, valuing your free dumb more than the lives of children.

Speaking of kids, did you see SF has the lowest children per capita of any major US city? Wild stat. Basically SF is full of self-indulgent narcissists without any real sense or purpose other than making the next line of emojis or dating Apps. This is not a recipe for sustainability of a societal construct. Rampant drug abuse and petty crime, unaffordable housing, and a population which is not renewing itself.

San Francisco will look like Detroit in 20 years. Same life cycle repeating itself. A boom economy of innovation followed by democratic mismanagement and societal degeneracy, forgiven in the name of “progressivism”.

That birth rate observation you made? Yes to all you said and add the fact that SF probably has the highest per capita gay population of any sizeable city in the world. And, strangely, not many of the "male" versions (excuse the gender bias pigeon holing here) are getting pregnant ..... huh...

BTW, I've lived in both SF (12 years) and Detroit (12 years) . The demographics are quite different in those cities, but that doesn't mean that SF hasn't pissed away it's iconic status and is now saddled with "leaders" who don't have a clue as to what made that city great once upon a time. So the similarities between the two will definitely continue into the future. ....

The major difference between the two is that SF has better scenery to look at (except for the shitty sidewalks and bums laying on all the sidewalks in the tourist areas) as you sink into despair and fear. But, that only goes so far, then sane people (like me) pack up and leave for a place that hasn't gone completely bat sh!t Leftist crazy. .

They elected leftists, not really liberals. Their ideas do not work in reality. Plenty of examples from around the world. The citizens voted for the bed they now sleep in.

Leftists now occupy the overwhelming majority of the “liberal” party. Much because of the ease of influence of Silicon Valley in public discourse due to their control of content over the last 20 years, their ideology is now foundational to the liberal platform. Look at how Joe Manchin is tarred & feathered. Biden himself was once moderate, but has no spine, can’t communicate and has ample kompromat w his degenerate kid that I’m sure he has to toe the line for the money in the party, which is still Silicon Valley.

The degeneracy of San Francisco has seeped into the liberal psyche, and it will take a decade to repair.

I'll take Wine Country. You can have the "Hands On Museum."

Wine country is definitely the thing I will probably miss most when I leave the state. Although the problem with going to Napa is that every winery seems to want to turn it into an "experience" rather than just showing off their wines so I can taste and buy. Healdsburg has unfortunately begun to turn to this model as well.
I have found the Paso Robles region to be better in that regard.

Classic liberalism is closer to conservatism than leftism.

Is this like the Real Housewives syndrome ? Lolol. I swear I’d be with you on that , though I’m not much of a wine drinker these days.

If he's like most probate attorneys, he fills in the blanks with his clients' info on form wills and powers of attorney, etc. and charges the poor saps big bucks. They could get the same thing on the interwebs for a fraction of the cost. He does the same with filing court docs if he is lucky enough to get an estate to handle. It's not what you call cutting edge legal work.

But, despite this, he manages to keep up with the Supreme Court cases and is able to find fault with certain Justices' reasoning consistently. Geez, someone should really email the WH and alert them to the Plump One's appellate skills. I'm sure he'd identify as a Black lesbian womyn if he had a shot at filling the next SCOTUS opening. Win-win for the Socialists there.
