RIP Ed Ott of Muncy, Pa.

Sad news for all Lycoming County sports fans and Pirates fans with the passing of Ed Ott. Ed was a great athlete excelling in football, wrestling and baseball. He certainly died too young at 72. RIP Ed.

I still remember Ed’s body slam at second base of an opposing player following Ed’s slide and ensuing scuffle. Don’t scuffle with a wrestler 😉

I never knew him, but I think he owned property, a camp or a home in Potter County as well and he was very well-liked by the locals.

Ed and his older brothers, Ron and Tom were outstanding wrestlers. In 1970, Ed's senior year, he was a regional champ at 165 and was favored to win states. Unfortunately, prior to states he injured his shoulder while working out with his coach, Earl Poust, a former Penn State wrestler. Ed won the semis at Rec Hall but lost in the finals, wrestling mostly with one arm. Ed was also a standout high school running back, garnering D1 interest. RIP
