So are recruiting violations a thing of the past now? Money exchanging hands is ok right? So James Franklin calling someone in a dead period would be ridiculous to throw sanctions on someone right?

I imagine before players take the field now, they can walk through the Tunnel of Money where fans shower them with bills. After games, we can go down onto the field and give them tips. Car dealers can stop acting like bagmen and have shiny new vehicles ready to go outside the stadium after big performances.

assuming that the NCAA will continue to exist, this will be an evolving situation. if there is no regulator, no regulations, then it will be open season and anything is possible. however, if you think there will be a governing body and rules, I suspect there will have to be some delineation between NIL and direct payment for a recruit. it is hard to believe that we would lose all governance, as the schools themselves would find that too chaotic.

if you follow the initial discussions around what NIL meant, it was about an individual athlete converting their demonstrated market value to $$$. the lawsuits that lead to this situation were about an individual's value from NIL. it was not about the value of a recruit to a team, but instead about the brand they developed as a result of playing. it will be interesting if we see more litigation on this, as trademark law determinants vary by circuit.

For recruits it would seem to be potential market value. Like sponsors signing a draft pick before they have played a down in their NFL market.

Most of the rules were ridiculous. Curis Enis's college career ended because he got a crappy suit at the Harrisburg Mall. Terrelle Pryor and Ohio State players were suspended because they sold their Fiesta Bowl hats or some stupid thing like that.
