Kudos to the Park Avenue Army for bringing it, as they typically do, during the Rutgers game.

Interesting stuff. I know almost nothing about women’s soccer...the only reason I ever looked at anything related to women’s soccer is because one of my best friends in high school has a daughter on the women’s national team...so I kind of keep an eye on her.

???

I think the last competition the U-20 WNT participated in was La Manga, in March. I don't think there are any USWNT U-20 events taking place at this time.

Hmmm. The announcers said Penn State had five players off with the National U-29 team. Should I believe you or the knowledgeable BTN announcers? (That was a rhetorical question, complete with satirical font..)

I didn't hear the broadcast, so I'm not sure what was said by the BTN announces.

While the U-20 WNT hasn't had a tournament since March, they did have a 2-match friendly series with Germany in June, and a 2-match friendly series with Japan in late August. Perhaps they're training for another short friendly series. I really don't know.

I think you are confused. If they said that, they would have been talking about the 2016 team.

What game were you referring to? I hadn't gotten around to watching the replay of Sunday's game against Purdue until this evening. When I first started to watch I noticed that it was a BTN Student U broadcast which meant that the announcers were Purdue students, so I figured they just might have made the mistake that you mentioned. That said, I never once heard them say anything about PSU missing any players so you must be talking about another game. Surprisingly, I thought the play-by-play guy was actually not bad at all. That caught me off guard since 90% of the time I find the Student U broadcasts unbearable to listen to. The color gal, on the other hand, contributed very little other than having one of the most unusual names I've ever heard, specifically Unique Beaver (sounds like a bad pornstar). I'm not sure what Mom and Dad Beaver were thinking when they named their daughter Unique.

P.S. Throw all the flags that you want. I figure the poor girl has had a tough enough life carrying Unique Beaver as a handle and won't rag on her (no pun intended) any more by posting a picture.

Hard to believe the parents named their child that. I checked the Purdue student directory, and @UncleLar is correct. There is a student with that name at Purdue.

Absolutely no flag on the play. As @UncleLar stated, the poor lady has probably suffered enough over the years about the name.

I did the same thing before I made the post. Her name was listed at the beginning of the broadcast and my first reaction was that someone had accidentally let a joke placeholder slip through to the on air broadcast. But then I heard the play-by-play guy call her by name. Google then confirmed that she was an intern in the Purdue athletic department.

Might make her the front runner for the guest celebrity picker on GameDay Saturday.

yeah, I've seen speculation about that in a few locations. I don't watch GameDay, so I have no sense how appropriate she'd be as a guest celebrity picker. Is that where they pick games, and for the feature game Corso puts a mask on his head of the mascot of the team he picks?

Yeah, usually the last 10 minutes of the show Mushmouth, the weekly guest, Corso and Herby each make their picks of the 6-8 best games of the day.

I have twins that attend PSU/Northwestern. I met the Gillikin family today at the game. He also has twins that are at both schools. Both my kids dont play soccer though. PSU soccer is relentless.

Nice story ... thanks for sharing.

The part of your post that I bolded is quite accurate. Those that are involved in the sport, or attend games, know how little room PSU gives opponents, and how they attack their opponent the entire game.

My daughter marked Coffey the entire second half. She slowed down her attack, but that team moves well without the ball. Fun to watch, just not from the opponents side. Good luck here on out.
